From the Refuge Cézanne to the Deux Aiguilles car park via the Trou

This trail is an alternative known to local hikers for reaching the Saint-Antonin car parks when they have just completed a circular in Sainte-Victoire: it avoids following the brown-marked route, passing through the Col de l'Oppidum (alt. 580 m), then descending a very steep and rugged path. There is a 40-metre less elevation gain, and when you are in a hurry to get to the car park or tired, taking this Trou trail is a good option, especially in bad weather.

Description of the walk

The trail starts on the red-marked path that descends from the Sainte-Victoire ridges, 50 metres north of the Refuge Cézanne and the hamlet of Le Trou.

(S) At the end of the trail coming from Sainte-Victoire, ignore the tracks leading to the Col de l'Oppidum (brown markings) or to the refuge, and take the track that descends southwards. Walk about 50 metres to the first bend in this track, where the red-marked trail begins.

(1) Take the path that descends into the woods and walk through them for about 600 metres. After a few log steps, take the track southwards until you reach a slight bend to the east where you will find a fork with a sign.

(2) Ignore the red-marked trail that descends south, and follow the wide unmarked trail southeast, then south until you reach a trailhead marked by a sign for "Accès Parking du Bouquet".

(3) Take the narrow path on the left between two shrubs. Descend south-east on log steps, then over rocks for a few metres. At the sign for "Maison Sainte-Victoire par le trou, 30 minutes", turn east through the heath, following the yellow markings which continue to the finish. Pass in front of an oratory and descend towards the east, cross the dry stream and climb back up to reach a track which you follow until you come to a fork with a path on the right, clearly marked with yellow markings. Continue south-east, climbing the path which levels out before reaching the D17 departmental road.

(4) Without crossing it, carefully follow it on the left for a few metres, then go behind the safety barrier to take a footpath that is not always clearly marked. Cross the road at the "Départ sentier" sign, pass in front of the Maison de Sainte-Victoire, continue across the car park towards the east until you reach the start of a path.

(5) Take the path that crosses a meadow and leads to the Deux Aiguilles car park.
