From Col des Aravis to Les Stallets via Chalet du Curé and Boegneuve

An easy hike offering magnificent panoramic views of the entire Mont Blanc range. The mountain range gradually reveals itself as you hike along a road that is passable by vehicle throughout. If you go as far as Stallets, you will have an extraordinary 180° view of the Northern Alps. It is also possible to stop at the Chalet du Curé, which already offers a commanding view, or at Boegneuve. This hike is completely exposed, so we recommend doing it in autumn or late summer, or during the cooler hours of the day in summer.

Description of the walk

Park in the free car park behind the Rhododendrons restaurant.

(S/E) Take the forest track that climbs very gently towards L'Étale.

(1) Cross the Torrent des Aravis and reach a fork in the road located at a hairpin bend.

(2) Stay on the track you have been following and continue straight ahead. Pass an alpine farm and arrive at the Plan Rebord mountain inn.

(3) Continue along the slightly undulating track that winds through the mountains. You will reach the Chalet du Curé, where picnic tables offer a pleasant view for a possible break.

(4) Stay on the track, pass Les Stapssets, then Les Mouilles and cross the ford on the stream de la Coufaz. You will arrive at a crossroads near Boegneuve.

(5) Take the track on the right, pass the Boegneuve cheese dairy and stay on the wide track towards the Col de l'Arpettaz. Reach Les Stallets: bird's eye view of the Col de l'Arpettaz and orientation table.

(6) Take the uphill route in the opposite direction to return to the Col des Aravis (S/E).

In summer, this gradual climb will take you through the forest, then the mountain pastures to halfway around a beautiful artificial reservoir. (medium level) You will then climb a very steep forest path (difficult rating) leading to the viewpoint at 1980m, offering an incomparable view of La Clusaz, the Col des Aravis, the Mont Blanc massif and the peaks of the Jura. The second part of the descent, after the reservoir, is easy and informative (plants and habitats).

L'Étale (altitude 2,483 m) is a complex mountain in the Bornes-Aravis massif, renowned for its aerial ridge route. The normal route (with a few variations) allows you to climb up a relatively austere combe on the western slope, but the final stretch is well worth the effort for the purity of the ridge and the expansive view.
