Start : The church at North Cave (HU15 2LW). Junction B1230 and Church Lane.
(S/E) From the church at North Cave, head Aastwards along the road. Immediately after the road leaves the village on the first turn of a double bend there is a waymarked path on the right-side of the road. The path is sign-posted to William's Den. After a short pretty walk, Williams Den (a children's play area) can be seen across a field on the left. When the path comes to an end turn right along the farm track that very soon bends left and continues towards and through Drewton Farm. Follow the track until it meets the A1034.
(1) Turn right along the road and look out for the entrance to the Drewton Estate on the left. Turn into the entrance and follow a well tended road past some holiday lets on the right and the entrance to Drewton Manor on the left. Keep following the road straight on.
The road is barred by a metal gate and at first glance, there appears no way through but in the middle of the gate is an unusual stile-style gate (you'll understand when you see it). Open the gate and step over to continue along the road.
(2) As the track appears to bend to the left and enter a woodland take the waymarked footpath to the right. Very shortly the path crosses a dismantled railway line via a bridge and continues parallel to the line. The path continues through an unusual livestock gate and immediately rises to a signpost where it joins the Yorkshire Wolds Way (YWW), Continue straight on but keep an eye out for a path on the left (after a100 yards or so) that enters the woods via a gate.
(3) This woodland path rises through the Low Hunsley Plantation and enters East Dale where it gets gradually steeper until the path bursts out of the woods and turns sharply to the left along the edge of a farmer's field. Follow the path across the B1230, and across another field to a minor road.
(4) Turn right along the road and go straight across the crossroads. Follow the sign for the YWW to the left. The path eventually descends into a cultivated long dale. Shortly before the YWW enters woodland and turns right at the end of the dale, our path cuts across the cultivated field to the left and enters a pretty wood where a short sharp climb leads out onto a field.
(5) Cross the field and turn right onto the road, following it downhill into the pretty village of North Newbald.
(6) The road emerges into the centre of the village opposite The Tiger (pub) with the Gnu Inn to the left. Take the road to the right of The Tiger sign-posted to Market Weighton. At the end of the road turn right and follow this up to the junction with the A1034. Cross over and follow the road opposite.
(7) The road eventually deteriorates to a track and enters woodland. Keep straight on passing The Cottage on your right until arriving at a crossroads.
(8) Take the path to the left and continue straight on passing by Cliffe Dales farm on your left. Follow the farm track until it turns to the right. At this point take the path to the left which leads to a track.
(9) Turn right and follow the track into Hotham. Follow the main road through the pretty village until, just as the road bends to the right, a footpath leads straight on, through a stretch of well-maintained private land. Cross the road at the end and enter the grounds of Hotham Hall. The drive sweeps to the left, but there is a signpost indicating the path straight ahead. Follow the path into North Cave.
(10) At the end of the path, turn left and follow the road round the bend back to the church.(S/E)
