The route starts from the car park below the Col du Coq on the RD30e departmental road.
(S/E) The route at the start is the same as for the classic Dent de Crolles route: follow the signs towards the Col des Ayes and reach it.
(1) Turn right towards Dent de Crolles and climb the winding path to the next signpost marking the fork in the road.
(2) Take the path on the left towards Dent de Crolles via Trou du Glaz. Continue along the marked trail, which is theGR®®9marked in red and white, and reach Trou du Glaz.
(3) Turn right through a passage in the rock with a few easy climbs secured by cables (caution: the rock may be slippery in places).
After the third cable section, the route leaves the marked trail on the right. The path is immediately below the cliff. An old marker (red and yellow arrow) is still visible on a rock on the right-hand side of the marked path; this is the start of the Barrère strap.
(4) Caution: The path is not very visible and requires a bit of searching. There is a path that branches off to your right at the third cable section, but do not take it. Instead, take the path after the cable sections, on the flat section immediately below a cliff face.
Follow the path along the entire length of the cliff. The path is relatively well marked, so you can't go wrong (be careful of falling rocks or ice in winter). Then head to Pas de l'Oeille.
(5) Continue opposite in a south-easterly direction until you reach the Dent de Crolles cross, which you can see upstream.
(6) To return, go back to Pas de l'Oeille.
(5) Turn left and follow the marked route to the crossroads you passed on the way up. Be careful in this area, as there are a few small descents equipped with cables (the rock can be slippery) but they are not particularly difficult.
(2) Take the opposite route to the one you took on the way up to return to the car park (S/E).
