Parking is available at the Col du Coq in summer. When the pass is closed, parking is available further down (signposted on the road).
(S/E) Follow the classic Dent de Crolles path towards Col des Ayes. This path is marked withGR®® and GRP®®signs.
(1) At the Col des Ayes, turn right towards the Dent de Crolles and begin a series of tight hairpin bends.
(2) At the crossroads, follow the signs to the left towards Trou du Glaz and continue until you reach it.
(3) Take the path that climbs to the right (Sangle de la Barrère) and reach the start of the east face traverse: this is difficult to find, as you have to climb over the needle-shaped rock.
I recommend following the GPX track closely to make sure you are on the right path, which becomes more visible after a few metres.
(4) Turn right to follow this path and reach the fork in the path that leads to the summit of Dent de Crolle.
(5) Turn left if you plan to go there. Otherwise (route choice), continue on the path to the right, away from the cross.
(6) At the fork, turn left and begin the descent leading tothe GR®®9.
(7) Follow the latter, turning left.
(8) Leave theGR®®9by turning right and rejoin the path you took on the way up.
(3) Turn right and follow the outward route in reverse to return to the car park (S/E).
