From Vernet-les-Bains to Corneilla-de-Conflent

Park in the car park of the Vernet-les-Bains casino.

(S/E) Go to the back of the car park and turn right onto Rue Louis Codet, arriving at the crossroads opposite the bridge over the Cady (El Cadí).

(1) Turn left onto Promenade Albiot, and when you reach the Square residence, take Route de Sahorre (D27) on the left.

(2) Turn right onto Promenade Claude Nogué and continue until you reach the nursing home.

(3) Take Chemin de Fuilla on the left and walk alongside the nursing home. Then leave the path and turn left onto a trail that climbs steadily and leads to a track.

(4) Follow this track to the right for about 100 metres, then leave it and take a small path on the right that runs alongside the track: all along the climb, there is a beautiful view of Canigou. You will arrive at the ruined Romanesque chapel of Saint-Clíment de la Serra (Saint Clement of the Mountain) and its viewpoint.

(5) Continue along the path that leads to a magnificent dolmen on the right.

(6) Go around it and take a small path on the right: be careful, the descent is quite steep and slippery, especially after rain. Join a tarmac road.

(7) Turn right onto the road to enter the village of Cornellia-de-Conflent and reach the junction with the D116.

(8) Cross it carefully at the pedestrian crossing and continue opposite on Carrer d'Avall (lower street). Then turn left onto Carrer de la Font de la Barrera (fountain street) to reach the Churchof Sainte-Marie, a jewel of Romanesque art.

(9) Turn back and follow Carrer del Canigó (Canigou Street). Then turn left onto Camí San Jaume ( St James' Way ).

(10) Take the path on the left, which climbs quite steeply into the forest. The slope levels out higher up and the path joins a track. Continue straight ahead for about 40 metres, then turn right at the three-way junction. This will take you to the D27.

(11) Keep to the right and follow the road for about 20 metres, then turn right onto the path that descends to Vernet-les-Bains, marked with yellow and red GRP® Ronde du Canigou signs. Cross the Ruisseau de Saint-Vincent stream and follow the Chemin des Escoumeilles on the left, which leads to the Route de Fillols, not far from the cemetery.

(12) Turn right and follow the road called Boulevard Lambert Violet. Pass the town hall on your right.

(13) Turn right to cross a small car park, then take the stairs back to Avenue des Thermes. Continue right on Avenue des Thermes to reach Place de la République. Cross the square, turning left, walk past the tourist office and follow Rue du Cady. Then turn right, following the sign for the wash house: this is a large room with numerous basins supplied with hot water, and frescoes can be seen on the walls.

(14) Retrace your steps, turn right onto Rue du Cady and cross the bridge over the Cady.

(1) Follow Rue Louis Codet for about 50 metres, then turn left into Parc du Casino. You will come out onto Allée du Parc. Turn right and walk past the casino to return to the car park (S/E).
