Description of the walk

Please note that when this hike was completed (4 January 2026), the passage through the spa was closed and prohibited!

Park in the spaces located on Promenade Albiot.

(S/E) From the car park, take the GRP® de la Ronde du Canigó, which heads west towards the Camping des Cerisiers. Just before the campsite, at a bend in the road, continue straight ahead on the GRP®. The track turns into a path and joins an intersection.

(1) Leave the GRP® by turning left and climb gradually before the slopes become steeper. After considerable effort, you will reach another intersection.

(2) Turn right towards La Péna and continue climbing up steep slopes. After a section with a handrail, the final climbs lead to Pic de la Péna.

(3) Fantastic panorama, especially over Vernet-les-Bains and Canigó. Continue south-west along the ridge towards Tour Goa. This section is breathtaking with continuous views of the surrounding peaks. After less than 2 km along the ridge, you will reach an intersection with a signpost.

(4) Climb south-west towards the Tour de Goa. The slope is steep and leads to the desired destination.

(5) Exceptional panorama with an orientation table allowing you to read the visible landscape. Descend to the previous intersection.

(4) Head north-west towards Sahorre. A few metres later, enter the undergrowth, then, after crossing a small stream, leave the undergrowth and continue along the balcony. There are a few fairly steep descents on this section before reaching Col Manchas (not indicated by a sign) located just after a barrier.

(6) The path becomes a track. Continue along this track until you reach a crossroads.

(7) Pick up the GRP®, ignore the track opposite that leads to Sahorre and take the one on the left, in the forest. Stay on this downhill track until you reach another intersection.

(8) Leave the track and stay on the GRP® by taking the path opposite leading to the junction you passed at the start of the hike.

(1) Retrace your steps in the opposite direction to return to the Promenade Albiot (S/E).

This hike takes us from Vernet-les-Bains to Corneilla-de-Conflent, a pretty route between the hills and the valley, part of which is through wooded areas. We pass a well-preserved dolmen and can take our time to visit the village of Corneilla-de-Conflent with its Romanesque church. At the end of the route, I suggest you take a look at an unusual wash house.

A very beautiful hike, partly on marked trails. The route includes a circular path on the map that is not marked, where the descent to the Cascade des Anglais is very steep for 100 metres and should not be attempted if it is raining or still wet. In case of bad weather, plan to descend via the usual trail.

A half-day hike offering superb views of Canigou and the surroundings of Vernet-les-Bains. You will also see the Church of Saint-Martin du Canigou nestled in its setting. The longer version of this route can be extended to Torre de Goa, returning via the path marked on the map on the western side, or by going to Colle de Jou and descending via the correc del coll de Jou and Casteil.

A beautiful and challenging hike above Vernet-les-Bains. I have classified this hike as difficult due to its significant gradient (900 m over 5 km) and paths that are sometimes difficult in certain places. Tricky section at the Font del Bac dels Monjos (5) and difficult right up to (6).

The only place in the region where there was no wind! We were able to walk all day without a breath of wind, whilst everywhere else, gusts of over 100 km/h were sweeping across the mountains. Incredible! On the other hand, there are quite a few trees blocking the paths, which sometimes makes progress difficult or tedious. Nevertheless, a lovely hike despite the final section being entirely on track.
