From Saint-Nolff to the Chapel of Saint-Colombier

A pleasant circular walk in natural surroundings, featuring two unmarked forest trails, which are maintained in particular by joggers. This walk is best done in calm weather, due to the risk of falling trees and branches. When hiking the trail for the first time, if you do not know the route, the use of a GPS device is strongly recommended. Prepare yourself by reading the description and consulting the map; familiarise yourself with the location of the route in relation to the terrain and the road network; check that it is generally close by and accessible by staying on the path.
The original route (2015) was slightly modified in March 2023 due to fallen trees. The route was last checked on 16 June 2025 (description updated) and 17 November 2025 (confirmation of no changes).

Description of the walk

Meet at the car park opposite the town hall of Saint-Nolff, Place Saint-Mayeul, near the covered wash house on the Condat and the sign at the start of the PR® "Vallée du Condat" (Condat Valley), marked in yellow. The QR code on the sign links to its description. This information sheet includes instructions on how to join this route if you wish (see the variations section).

Yellow markings on the Condat route for reference

(S/E) Start the walk on the footpath that runs alongside the Ruisseau du Condat downstream; leave it on your right, the town hall is on your left. Use the yellow markings of the Condat Valley route as landmarks, even if those of the GRP® Vannes-Lanvaux are also present. Cross the D135 / Rue des Lavandières towards the Moulin de Gourvinec. The path passes near a leisure area, a playground and a football pitch. Pass the Étang de Gourvinec on your left; at the end of the pond, cross a small bridge to reach the D135. Turn right. A sign for "Sentier du Condat" points towards the mill below, but continue for a few more metres along the departmental road.

(1) On the bridge, read the sign describing the mill. Then continue past the water wheel. From the courtyard below, admire the dovecotes on the front of the mill.
Normal description
Continue walking along the marked route. Cross a first wooden bridge over the Condat, then two more. At the third bridge, continue along the marked trail on the left bank of the stream, without taking the tarmac road.
After passing the sewage treatment plant basins and a large pylon (SNCF network antenna) on your left, cross a stone threshold in a small embankment at the edge of a small wooded area and cross it. Then, after a light fence, turn right onto the tarmac road (C4) that runs alongside the railway line (Savenay - Landerneau). Follow this road on the right-hand side until you reach the Foulon level crossing (level crossing no. 426).
Provisional description (still valid at the end of November 2025)
See: https://easycaptures.com/fs/uploaded/1866/9204833123.jpg
While repairs are being carried out on the small wooden bridge over the Condat, which you cross after passing through the courtyard of the Gourvinec mill, read paragraph description (1): "after passing through the mill courtyard, return to the D135, turn right towards the level crossing; before reaching it, take the C4; follow it until it joins the hiking route"

(2). Cross the railway line and follow the road uphill to the right (C1). On the right-hand embankment, 110 m further on, before the blue La Saret sign, you will see two small granite crosses, approximately 30 cm high.
Continue to the Chemin du Val, climbing up to the left towards a lodge. Leave it on your right and take the grassy path marked by a wooden sign saying "Chemin du Val". The path then enters the forest 200 m further on.

Yellow and red markings for the GRP® Vannes-Lanvaux

(3) At the junction of two good-sized paths, leave the route of the Vallée du Condat, which is an uphill path, and take the hollow path on the right (GRP®), marked in yellow and red, which leads to the C1. (Note: this section is duplicated by a parallel path that has been created on its left, due to fairly long periods when it was blocked by fallen trees). When you reach the C1, continue along the marked path, which climbs out of the forest for 20 metres and then stays close to the edge of the road. After the signpost for Lascouit, located on the right-hand side of the C1, continue along the path on the forest side without going down to the road. Stay on the path along the edge of the road. Go through a very light barrier topped with a "private forest" sign until you come to a large path on the left; this path, oriented at 225° (azimuth), starts from the C1, after a light barrier whose opening limits passage to pedestrians.

(4) You can check your position at this barrier. Once you have done so, follow the path at 225° for 60 m. You will then come to an ascending path heading left, at approximately 110°. This point features tree plantations made in 2015; you will also often see a pile of neatly stacked logs here.

No markings

Take the ascending path, at 110°, leaving the GRP® and without any markings. The path passes through an opening in a low wall designed for one person. This passage is distinctive. Follow the path until it is blocked by branches. Take the path that has been created on the left, slightly uphill on the hillside. Pass close to a long wall covered with moss. When the path is at 140° and its altitude is no longer changing, look up and you will see a tree with a sign saying "private forest, ...". Take the path to the left, at 90°, for about a hundred metres. Cross a wide path and continue for 40 metres. You will then come out onto the sunken path used by the Condat PR® (long-distance footpath), at a fairly high stone wall with a yellow mark. Before continuing straight on along the path that crosses the PR®, you can make a return trip by going down 30 metres towards the checkpoint described below.

(5) Note the "Kervel" sign in front of the ruins of a building. Another sign in the trees indicates "Association sylvicole nolféenne". Then go back up the PR® to the high stone wall mentioned above.
Continue along the small path to the left of the sunken lane, opposite the path you have already taken, towards the Bel Orient sports ground. The path runs alongside a light fence for 380 metres, which you should keep on your right. The fence then makes a first right-angle bend. Follow it and, after another bend, walk along it to the stadium. Once you can see the stadium, walk towards the buildings without crossing the sports grounds. When you reach the buildings, turn right towards the stadium entrance, walking along the boules courts on your left to exit the stadium.
At the "communal information" sign, turn right onto the main road (D135), walk along the high fences of the field and continue to the speed bump with a pedestrian crossing at the road to the Saint-Colomban Chapel. Take this road. After houses numbers 17 and 24, note a road on the right.

Yellow markings forthe PR®® trail in the Condat Valley

(6). This crossroads is the junction with the Condat Valley route. Continue along the Saint-Colombier road. Walk around the chapel and its banner calvary; note the presence of a lech.
Leave the chapel grounds and continue your walk on the tarmac road. Pass a path on your right with a wooden sign saying Chemin de Saint-Colombier. Pass several properties, including one with an araucaria tree (monkey's despair). After house no. 29, note the wooden sign for "Chemin des 6 heures". Follow the PR® markings on a wide, pleasant path. Pass two marked junctions.

No markings

(7) At the third fork (Y-shaped fork), leave the path by turning left onto a path that leads to a cultivated field 150 m further on. Turn right and continue along the unploughed path. Join the tarmac access road to the ADM company buildings (the access gate is 40 m on the right).
Once on the tarmac road, turn left and follow the double fence, one side of which is a long protective wire mesh under video surveillance. Follow the tarmac road up to the stop sign at the Bois du Val junction.

(8) Turn right onto the D135. 50 m further on, take the path, next to a house, between two signs, one indicating a speed bump and the other the entrance to the ADM company. Stay on this forest path which overlooks the D135. The path crosses a 20 m clearing that looks like an old quarry. As the path begins to move away from the road and widens, take a small path downhill at a bend in the path. It is characterised by its direct view of the road and is the only passage in this direction. If you miss the path by going too far, you will see buildings behind a wire fence. Return to identify the path leading downhill, which runs alongside the road at a distance of no more than 40 metres.

(9) The path, 15 m from a continuous transverse wall, meets a path coming from the D135, 30 m away. Descend towards the road but before reaching it, take the path on the right that runs alongside it. After 200 m, take the path on the right that goes up towards the forest. It runs alongside an old wall for 250 m. The path turns left towards Bodenno, continuing uphill. You will reach the highest point of the route (altitude 126 m). At this point, the slope is steep downstream; on the right, you will also notice a depression separating the path from the ridge. A large radio antenna is installed there but is hidden by vegetation. The path descends and joins the trail that extends the tarmac road from Bodenno.

(10) Pass above the old Bodenno farm, now taken over by the company "Armor bois construction". Continue along the hillside path and you will reach a low wall. Turn left onto a sloping section and you will come out onto a wide, straight, horizontal sunken path leading towards the town centre. Turn right and enter the urban area, between two blocks of flats. Turn left onto Rue du Vieux Couvent, note the large calvary, cross the railway line and reach the town hall car park (S/E).

Notes

Context
The trails on the route are generally stable from one year to the next; they are shown on the IGN maps used by Visorando.

Safety
A/ When to hike
You only need to enter the forest to see how often trees and branches fall. Good weather and light winds are essential conditions for choosing this route.
The trace on the ground of the route is good, no doubt due to the repeated passage of a few joggers. However, in the summer months, the undergrowth tends to invade certain passages; from autumn onwards, fallen leaves can also obscure the path.
B/ Hazards
Between points (9) and (10), the highest point of the route, the slopes on either side of the path are sometimes steep; keep an eye on children.
The route includes a few road crossings and two automatic level crossings on a major SNCF railway line.
C/ Forest area
The forest is private property; signs remind visitors of this.
D/ Following the marked routes
The signposting (PR®, GRP®), where it exists, is of good quality. Any doubts about it should be exceptional (due to unforeseen circumstances or the frequency of forest maintenance).
E/ Following unmarked routes
Before setting off on a hike, study the map and determine the possibilities for reorientation: proximity to a road, direction of tracks, slope of the terrain, location of urbanised areas, and also the position of suggested alternative routes. It should be possible to reorientate yourself fairly quickly. Under no circumstances should you leave a path; turn back if necessary. The following two images summarise the crossing points in the two unmarked areas

Help identifying the trails to follow
Consult this extract illustrating the described hike and its variants: https://easycaptures.com/fs/uploaded/157...
Two sections of the hike are unmarked:
the first, from Lascouit to Saint-Colombier, between points (4) and (5).
the second, after Bois du Val (8), at the end of the route.
A third section, at Bel Orient (Saint-Colombier), between points (5) and (6), is also unmarked but presents no difficulty due to a continuous fence between point (5) and the stadium, and the urban setting.
If you encounter any difficulties on one of the unmarked sections and wish to report and understand the problem, walk back along the section in the opposite direction to indicate the nearest known point.

Variants for reaching the PR® "Vallée du Condat":
The crossing points (3), (5) and (7) allow you to join the PR® "Vallée du Condat" route, described for example at https://www.golfedumorbihan.bzh/randonne...
See https://easycaptures.com/fs/uploaded/191...
Option 1:
At Le Val (3), you can stay on the Vallée du Condat route. Take the ascending sunken path. The first point to aim for is then (5) (Kervel sign).
Variation 2:
(5), Kervel sign. Instead of taking the route towards the Saint-Colombier sports stadium, you can stay on the Condat Valley route by following the marked Bel Orient path towards the D135. Once on the D135, turn right and continue for 250 metres. Then cross this road (watch out for traffic) to take the hiking trail called "Chemin de Vannes". At (6), the unmarked route and the Condat route meet.
Variant 3:
(7) Instead of heading towards the Bois du Val, turn right and stay on the marked Condat route.
The red and yellow markings of the GRP® Vannes-Lanvaux are also present at the start and end of the route.

Worth a visit

Condat stream
At the starting point, note a flood marker from 2001.
The Condat is a 21 km stream; it is also called the Liziec or Gornay stream (reference: https://www.observatoire-poissons-migrat...).
Heritage
The hike passes close to heritage buildings in Saint-Nolff (Saint-Mayeul Church, Sainte-Anne Chapel, Saint-Colomban Chapel in Saint-Colombier, Gourvineg Mill). Please refer to the municipality's website.
Also worth noting
Two sculptures
"Poing serré" (Clenched Fist) by Mic Bertincourt, near the Condat stream, between the playground and the football pitch.
"Murmures" in the courtyard of the Moulin de Gorvineg, below the road. This is a work by Limousin artist Nadaud Guillotin.
Crosses
Two small granite crosses on the roadside, on the embankment, about 100 metres upstream from the Foulon level crossing at 47.7048N, 2.6701W).
A large cross at the junction of Rue du Bois and Rue du Vieux Couvent, 100 m south of Saint-Mayeul Church.

Always be cautious and plan ahead when you're outdoors. Visorando and the author of this route cannot be held responsible for any accidents occurring on this route.

Good evening
The description of the hike encourages caution by indicating that it follows route markers (short hike, GRP) and that it includes two unmarked wooded areas. Bringing a smartphone and using it seems like an obvious solution today. Some marked sections have fallen trees that obscure the trail, which can be inconvenient for hikers. I will check the route soon and try to make it easier to follow, although the natural environment of the trail is quite changeable depending on weather conditions and seasons.

Good evening,
The GPS sometimes avoids reading descriptions that are too long, even though they are necessary. I have experienced poor GPS reception on this route and also a disconnection from Visorando, which is annoying if you don't have your password ready to use. Thank you.

Hello,

We are at a time of year when the paths can be hidden by fallen leaves. The difficulty of following the suggested route ("a circular route for walkers, pleasant in good weather, with unmarked forest trails") has been considered and alternatives have been suggested so that walkers can make the right choice depending on the circumstances.

Commenting on a comment is useful, but it would be better to retrace the route with the dissatisfied hiker so that additional concrete information can be found.

I think the hiker got lost before point 5, since at that point a recalibration procedure is suggested ("look for the Kervel sign"). The description provided on the Visorando website is factual: there are successive sections where it is advisable to follow the precise markings, if there are any, bearing in mind that some sections have no markings at all (and that there is therefore "nothing to see"). During the route, "private forest" signs are encountered; it is good to indicate this for several reasons: safety, information and location.
In case the hiker gets lost, a procedure is recommended on the information sheet: "If you find yourself in an unmarked section and wish to identify the source of the difficulty, walk back along the section in question, starting from an identified point on the Condat PR®."

The disappointed hiker provides no information about the equipment they used to follow the route (map? compass? pedometer? GPS?).
Have a nice day.

A huge disappointment. The route was well explained at the start, but unfortunately we couldn't continue the hike and had to turn back because the section (from 4 or 5) wasn't well explained in terms of the private forest. It was impossible to understand, even with the best will in the world (markings, no markings, nothing matched what we saw before us). I do not recommend following this route. Instead, find another route on another website if you want to follow the entire trail.

The route is not always easy to follow, particularly between Le Val and Bel-Orient, based on the directions provided. It is easier to turn left at the crossroads above the rural lodges in Le Val, go up to the D135 bis, then turn right towards Vannes before turning left onto Chemin de Vannes to rejoin the road to Saint Colomban Chapel.
The same applies at the end of the cul-de-sac after Saint Colomban: it's not easy to find the road back to Bel-Orient! It seems easier to follow the roads that lead to Toulgrand...
Finally, when you arrive in the village of Saint-Nolff, don't hesitate to go into the church if it's open. The Saint Anne chapel next door and the presbytery form a charming ensemble with the church.
Best regards.
