Bocage and Sinagot Marshes

The start is in the nature reserve car park. The route follows part of the GR®34 trail and part of a PR® path.

(S/E) Leave the car park and follow the Route de Brouel to the left, heading west for about 500 m.

(1) Take the path on the right towards the hamlet of Falguérec. Walk straight through the hamlet, ignoring the road on the left, before joining another path leading to the hamlet of Les Quatre Vents. Return to the tarmac road and walk through the hamlet, keeping to the left. Do not take the roads to Dolan and Magellan which branch off to the right.

(2) At the first junction leading off to the left, take Rue Jacques Quartier for a short distance, then continue straight on until the next junction.

(3) Turn left and follow a tree-lined lane.

(4) When you reach the road, turn right onto the path running parallel to the road, then, as soon as possible, cross the road and follow the path opposite.

(5) At the next crossroads, turn left towards the hamlet of La Croix Neuve. Then, 200 m further on, turn right before reaching the hamlet, following the sign for “Le Goah Vèr” or Le Gouavert. Continue to the next crossroads and turn slightly right towards Le Purgatoire.

(6) At this new junction, take the path on the left between two fields, towards Cressignan and Michotte.

(7) At the hamlet of Cressignan, make the first turn right then left, follow Route de Cressignan then Route de Michotte, crossing Route du Prato. Once in the hamlet of Michotte, follow the signs for “Réserve naturelle” and continue to the end of the tarmac section.

(8) Enjoy this beautiful view over the marshes, from where you can see the starting point. Go round the house, following the path and the yellow markers and signs indicating the reserve (GR®34). Cross the road to take the path opposite, before joining a good track to follow on the right.

(9) At the end of the straight stretch, turn right, cross a road and continue along the good path opposite. You’ll reach a road, the one you took at the start.

(1) Turn right to reach the nature reserve car park (S/E).

This walk is accessible all year round. The paths are often wide and well-drained. In wet weather, wear suitable footwear.There are public toilets and a tap for filling water bottles at the starting point at the entrance to the Séné nature reserve. We are not sure if these remain open when the reserve is closed. More information at https://www.reservedesene.bzh/. When the reserve is closed, the Friends of the Reserve association organises limited access on certain weekends. Check the website https://amisreservedesene.fr/.

Along the route, there are information boards explaining the natural and historical heritage. For example, you can learn about the history of the salt marshes in this area and their past importance to the local economy.

The Séné bird sanctuary is well worth a visit. It offers some of the most beautiful scenery here. Check opening times and the condition of the paths, particularly those furthest from the entrance, which are freely accessible all year round. At the very least, from the nature reserve car park, an observation platform is accessible free of charge at all times, situated above the visitor centre, allowing you to admire the salt marshes and their birds (through binoculars or a telescope).

Throughout the route, take your time to admire the scenery, particularly the light at sunrise and sunset.
