Description of the walk

Starting point: Rosny-sur-Seine station (Transilien, line J). Take the Rue de la Gare exit (on the side of the track when coming from Paris).

(S) With your back to the station, head right until you reach a roundabout, then turn left and immediately right into Rue Pasteur. After crossing a road, at the T-junction, first turn right then left onto Allée des Hortensias. At the end, cross a small bridge and turn right onto Chemin de la Grande Maison. At the T-junction, turn right, crossing a small bridge.

(1) Turn immediately left onto Chemin de la Villeneuve (with the Ru de Bléry on your left). Ignore a turn-off to the left and continue along this path (yellow markings), which climbs quite steeply.

(2) Turn right onto the PR® path into a meadow (viewpoint), then turn left, continuing to climb across the meadow (hedge on your left). Once at the top, rejoin the Chemin de la Villeneuve on the left and go through a forest gate. Continue straight ahead.

(3) Turn right, passing through another forest gate (yellow marker). About a hundred metres further on, leave the PR® and turn right onto a small path (Yellow Cross on a tree). At the end of the path, turn left then go straight on to the gazebo (viewpoint).

(4) Take the path on the left (yellow markings). Zigzag along, then carry on straight ahead until you reach the forest gate you passed earlier.

(3) Turn right, then continue along the path running between a small car park and a transformer. Pass under some high-voltage power lines. Then cross the bridge over the motorway. As you come off the bridge, head left and go through a forest gate. At the junction, go straight ahead and join Route Madame.

(5) Turn right, pass one junction and at the next one turn left. Cross a junction (the right-hand turn shown next on the map does not exist) and continue until you reach Route Royale.

(6) Turn right and carry on straight ahead, passing through two junctions, until you reach the Berri junction (wooden sign on a tree). Carry on straight ahead along a path narrower than the other branches of the junction until you reach a T-junction.

(7) Turn right, following the PR® (yellow markings), climb up to the north of the limestone grassy areas (viewpoint) and then carry on until you reach a pumping station.

(8) Leave the PR® and take the road on your left.

(9) Continue along the road, which climbs quite steeply: the Chemin de la Vallée des Prés.

(10) Turn right onto Rue Jean Jaurès. Ignore the side streets until you reach a T-junction, then turn left to reach the D 89.

(11) Turn right onto Rue Roger Salengro. Ignore the side streets until you reach a ‘Stop’ sign.

(12) Turn immediately right onto Chemin du Bois Boutilliers (signposted). Follow the path to the right, go through a gate and continue straight on along this local path until you reach a forest gate.

(13) Head slightly to the right, ignore a turn-off to the right, then turn left onto the path that runs alongside a high-voltage power line.

(14) At the next junction, turn right onto a small path
(sign on a tree prohibiting access to motor vehicles). Cross a junction of paths, then ignore a turn-off to the left and join the GR®26.

(15) Turn left and follow theGR®® (red and white markings).

(16) This trail will make a first turn right then left at a place called l’Aventure.

(17) At the next junction, head slightly to the right along the GR® and ignore a turn-off to the left.

(18) A little further on, head up the hairpin bend to the left following the GR®. At the junction with a road, go straight ahead. At the T-junction that follows, turn right to go under the motorway bridge and immediately turn right onto the GR®. Ignore a path on the right that runs alongside the A13 and enter the Bois de La Houssaye. At the first junction, continue left along the GR® and, about 100 metres further on, ignore a path branching off to the right.

(19) At the next junction, leave the GR® and turn right. At the following junction, take the second path on the left towards the riding centre on your right. Turn right onto the path and, at the T-junction, turn left.

(20) About a hundred metres further on, turn left into a large meadow (stunning views) and cross it to rejoin the GR®®.

(21) Head down to the right along the GR® to reach the forest path (sports complex on your right); first turn right then left to pass under the A13a bridge, staying on the left-hand pavement of Rue des Caboches and ignoring a street immediately on your left.

(22) Turn left into the next street, which runs between blocks of flats, cross Rue Jacques Deschamps and take Rue Marcel Honoré, leaving Rue Hoche on your left and then Rue Jules Michaux on your right.

(23) At the next junction, turn left onto Avenue Victor Hugo. Cross two junctions and, at the roundabout by the War Memorial, turn right onto Avenue du Maréchal Galliéni.

(24) Turn right onto Rue Marcel Sembat, pass the town hall and then the church on Rue Georges Herrewyn, and turn left onto Rue de la Gare, which will take you to Bonnières-sur-Seine station (E).

Worth a visit

Placesto visit in this order along the walk:

Rosny-sur-Seine
After (3) The Châtillon Lookout, with its gazebo built at the very end of the 19th century from local timber, initially served as a ticket office for the 1900 Paris World’s Fair. After spending a few weeks in the heart of the capital, the gazebo was subsequently purchased by a wealthy local landowner who converted it, at the start of the 20th century, into a hunting lodge.
After (3) In the small car park – near the transformer – there is an information point: a map of the forest with various notes, historical information and details of places to visit around Rosny-sur-Seine.

Agutte-Sembat Park and House: 51 Rue Marcel Sembat
Town Hall
Built at the end of the 14th century on the ruins of a former town hall, Bonnières Town Hall is now adorned with the town’s coat of arms and its roof is crowned by an imposing bell tower.
Beuron Arches (opposite the church) Place de la Libération
Re-erected in 1975 in Bonnières-sur-Seine, opposite the church, these three arches form part of the remains of the Château des Beurons, situated in the Bois des Beurons in the commune of Perdreauville.
Church of Notre Dame du Mesnil-Regnard
This is a former chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Bonnières, which was consecrated on 4 January 1740.
The original stained-glass windows were completely destroyed during the Allied bombings in the spring of 1944, and new figurative stained-glass windows, depicting the twenty mysteries of the lives of Jesus and Mary and the four rosaries, were installed from August 2004 onwards.

A magnificent route. Varied, rolling countryside with stunning views as you emerge from the woods. It feels as though you’re a long way from Paris. I’ve done this route twice.
The route requires a bit of concentration but doesn’t present any particular navigation difficulties.

Be careful in wet weather as the paths can be slippery.

Some lovely views despite the unsettled weather, with ups and downs, and a few damp patches following the recent rain.
I was worried about the noise from the motorway, but in the end you can only hear it when you’re very close; in the forest, all you can hear are the birds.
We made a mistake at point 3: we went through the first gate we came to on the right (a metal gate) and ended up on private property.
Bonnières station isn’t very well served, so you need to check the timetables carefully. We arrived at the station around 4 pm but had to wait over an hour and a half for a train. We took the opportunity to go for a stroll along the banks of the Seine.
