(S) Departure Ponta do Sol. A spectacular coastal hike that first takes us along a small paved road to the colourful village of Fontainhas.
(1) In the village, the road ends and we take the paved path overlooking the ocean to the hamlets of Corvo.
(2) We continue along the balcony path to Forminguinhas, where the sea and mountains meet.
(3) We follow the path, carved into the basalt walls and ash, which overlooks the ocean and leads to a small black sand beach. We continue along the paved path and, after crossing numerous ribeiras and covering the last kilometre before the village on a wide dirt track, we reach the village of Cruzinha, a fishing village at the end of the world.
(4) From Cruzinha, we continue for a while along the coastal path and then find the tranquillity of the valleys again as we enter the Garça valley on the left.
(5) We continue along the Ribeira da Garça to reach the remote village of Chã de Igreja, nestled above a gorge, with its small square, white church and coconut trees (E).
