Please note: there are no signposts along the route, but it is a single track and very easy to follow.
The starting point is in the middle of the countryside. To get there, you will need to be dropped off or leave a vehicle on site. The trail is located on a bend in the road that turns right uphill with a small wall on each side. There is also a small bridge to drain rainwater. The trail is clearly visible from the road. It is on the left as you go uphill (the only trail at this point). There are no markings on the climb, but there is a single main trail.
(S) Go up the bottom of the valley and then leave it on the left to pass under an acacia tree. About twenty minutes later, the trail descends slightly into a small valley with a few trees and then climbs again.
(1) Shortly after this valley, at a small crossroads, stay on the main path which climbs up, making a sharp right turn, ignoring the small path that descends to the left.
The trail zigzags up the side of the cliff to reach the plateau (after about 2 hours).
View of the Tope de Coroa (the island's highest point at 1,972 m).
(2) On the plateau, the trail continues straight ahead and descends; do not take it. Follow a small path on the left, along the ridge, towards a small isolated white house surrounded by trees. Reach the house.
(3) Continue along the path that runs along the cliff.
(4) When you reach the viewpoint, take the path that descends into the cliff: the Bordeira do Norte trail.
(5) You can return to the village of Cha de Morte via the path on the left. Otherwise, take the path on the right that descends to the river.
(6) Cross the river and take the path opposite, which climbs back up to the village of Cha de Cochete. Follow the road to the Quinta Cochete guesthouse (E).
