Departure from the Govelle Beach car park.
(S/E) Turn your back to the sea and take the street that runs between the houses, north of the roundabout (Chemin de la Govelle). At the first crossroads, turn right, then left when the street ends and finally right onto Chemin de Codan. Continue along this path until you reach a new residential area.
(1) Before reaching the road that goes around the housing estate, take the path on the left, which goes around market gardens (Chemin du Loc). It passes close to old bunkers, remnants of the Second World War. Leave a path on the right, then on the left and finally turn right into the next one.
At the first lake, turn left and follow it until you reach a road (RD245). You have just entered the Batz-Guérande salt marshes.
(2) Cross the road carefully and follow the path that veers slightly to the left, just after a café, to enter the village of Roffiat. Follow Rue de Kerban, then turn right onto Rue du Guhaut. When you reach a small square, turn right onto Rue Grande Venelle and, at the first bend, continue along the path that leads into the marsh. You will soon reach the first salt marshes, before coming to the railway line.
Turn left to return to a level crossing, which you do not cross. With your back to it, walk up the village's main street to return to the departmental road.
(3) Cross the RD245 again with caution, then take the small path opposite, slightly to the right, which runs alongside the farm buildings. It has a pretty name: Chemin du Pré Sucré! At the first crossroads, turn right, then turn right again 100 metres further on to enter the village of Kermoisan.
At the first small square, turn left to reach the second and continue your walk along the pedestrian path between the two parts of Rue du Calvaire. You will come out onto Allée du Binen (a housing estate road) before reaching Route du Manérick. At the foot of the water tower, turn left and leave the village.
(4) After passing the last houses, turn right onto the path opposite an old flooded quarry. This path, lined with blackthorn, leads to the village of Beauregard, which you cross by following the road until you reach the beautiful white Moulin de la Masse mill.
(5) Turn left onto Chemin du Pré Bourhic after passing the mill. Before reaching the RD 245, turn left onto Chemin de la Lande. This path is very damp, which encourages plant growth (mainly umbellifers) in spring, but it is well used and, unless you are the first to walk it, a path is clearly visible. If it really is not possible to pass, join the road that runs at the foot of the mill, follow it for about 150 m towards Bourg de Batz, and rejoin the Kerlan path on the right.
After meeting another path coming from Kerdréan on the left, the path returns to its original route between two low stone walls. Follow it uphill to reach the village of Kerlan.
(6) When you reach the road, continue straight ahead until you reach the bend and continue straight on along the path that climbs back towards the sea. At the highest point, there is a beautiful view of Bourg de Batz and its imposing church.
(7) Shortly afterwards, you will reach the coastal road (RD45), which you cross to take the Allée de la Dilane, opposite but slightly to the right. The coastal path passes at the end of this road. Turn left to follow it to the Baie du Dervin, where you will rejoin the coastal road. As you pass, you can see the enormous bunker, now converted into a museum, which was used to monitor the coast as an outpost for Saint-Nazaire and its port facilities.
(8) Go down to the beach and take the coastal path that continues to the left, climbing over the rocks. It goes around some beautiful properties before returning to the coastal road at Baie du Manérick. If the tide prevents you from crossing the beach, follow the road to Manérick.
Follow this part of the coastline, between the road and the cliff, then turn right towards the sea when the coastal path moves away from the road. After a few hundred metres of slaloming between the houses in the dunes perched on top of the foreshore, the path returns to the road. Before reaching it, turn right to return to the beach, which will take you back to the starting point, tide permitting. Otherwise, complete the route by following the roadside for a good hundred metres to the Govelle car park (S/E).
That didn't stop me from continuing.
