From Cala del Pilar to Cala en Calderer

Hiking along the Cami de Cavalls (GR®223) in Menorca, this walk is, for me, one of the island’s three must-do hikes. The beauty of the landscape, combined with the colours of the sea, makes for a magnificent route.

Description of the walk

Park in the Pla de Sa Font car park.

(S/E) Walk about fifty metres to find the start of the path on the right, which leads to Cala del Pilar. Join the Cami de Cavalls.

(1) Turn right to continue towards Cala del Pilar.

(2) You can go for a swim either on the way there or on the way back, as you prefer. Continue along the Cami de Cavalls, following the coastline more or less closely. From this point onwards, the route is clearly signposted all the way, so it’s impossible to go wrong. Carry on until you reach Cala en Calderer.

(3) Take the time to have a good rest, then return via the same route.

(1) Don’t forget to turn left to get back to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Please note that there is no drinking water along the route. Make sure you bring plenty of water to ensure you can enjoy the walk in comfort.
The trail presents no difficulties. However, a good pair of walking shoes is strongly recommended.
Be careful of sun exposure during this walk; I do not recommend doing it during the summer months. Simply stopping at the beach will be enough and is a pure delight in itself.

Worth a visit

Hikes along the Cami del Cavalls are almost always round trips.
This means you can always head for the next cove, but bear in mind you’ll have to walk back the way you came.
Ideally, you should do these walks using a two-car shuttle system, as the bus service doesn’t serve the starting points of the walks. This would allow you to explore more of the coastline.

Menorca is brilliant for walks between the sky and the sea, with its turquoise waters. Have a lovely stay and enjoy your walks
