From Es Grau to the Favaritx lighthouse

For me, this hike is one of Menorca's must-dos. It crosses the s'Albufera des Grau Natural Park before joining the Cami de Cavalls (GR®223). The coastline and coves along the way to the Favaritx Lighthouse are magnificent. This is a round trip, so there is no need to go all the way to the lighthouse if you are tired, as you can see it in the distance from the coves.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the entrance to Es Grau.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, leave the road that leads to the village on your right. Cross over and take the well-marked path on the left, which will lead you to the start of the hike 200 metres further on.

(1) Go through the small gate on the right and start walking along the Cami de Cavalls (GR®223). Continue and take the footbridges to reach the coast.

(2) Turn left, leaving the return path via the beach on your right. From this point, follow the Cami de Cavalls carefully, which is very well signposted. Ignore any paths that branch off to the right or left and lead nowhere or to viewpoints. You will arrive at the Favaritx lighthouse.

(3) Take a break and enjoy the view. The return journey will follow the same route as the outward journey.

(2) Turn left to go along the beach. This will take you to the centre of the village.

(4) Then head to the car park, which is about 200 metres away, on the outskirts of the village (S/E).

Notes

Please note that there is no drinking water along the route. Bring a good supply to ensure you can hike in good conditions.
There are no difficulties on the trail. However, a good pair of shoes is strongly recommended.
Be careful in the sun during this hike; I do not recommend doing it in the summer.
Hikes that follow the same route there and back allow you to adjust the distance according to your physical condition at the time.
For example, you can choose not to go to the lighthouse and stop the hike as soon as you see it. This will reduce the distance of the hike.
The opposite is also true: you can reach the next cove after the lighthouse, but this will increase the distance of the hike.

Worth a visit

Swimming is possible throughout the hike. You can also wait until you arrive and relax in the crystal-clear water at Platja des Grau.
The village is very small and concentrated around the beach. It's enough to have a drink and enjoy the view of the beach and its magnificent water.

A beautiful coastal hike done on 25 October, so not very busy. But even on that date, it was very warm, so don't forget to bring plenty of water.
And there are plenty of coves to choose from for swimming and picnicking.

Date of the hike: 22 October 2025: in summer it must be much busier, especially as it provides access to some very beautiful beaches.

Fun and varied!
The best part is swimming in turquoise water at 26°C at the end of September.
No problem.

Hello,
A magnificent coastal hike. No difficulty, just follow the Cami de Cavalls
We stopped at a beautiful little cove with a view of the lighthouse for lunch and a refreshing swim (early May). It was 14 km and we weren't interested in going to the lighthouse, which is accessible by car.
Thank you for sharing.

A very beautiful hike, not to be missed.
Good hiking boots are essential. The hike is fairly intermediate in difficulty.

A surprisingly original route, even though it follows the coast. The path alternates between beaches and the interior of the nature reserve. No technical difficulties, fairly easy to walk. Best done on a day that is not too hot, of course, and with plenty of water. There is a lot to do on Menorca, but this is THE day for hikers.
