Park in the car park at the end of Ibon de los Baños (northern tip of the lake).
(S/E) Cross the bridge over the Rio Caldarès and turn right (north-east).
(1) At the next bridge, turn left onto theGR®11and follow the river up the right bank. Some exposed sections are equipped with handrails but are not recommended for those who suffer from vertigo.
(2) Leave theGR®11temporarily to cross a footbridge over the river and switch to the left bank. Continue climbing and you will see waterfalls.
(3) Return to the left bank of the river and rejoin theGR®11.
(4) Begin a fairly steep climb where the stones are in poor condition due to rockfalls (watch your ankles).
(5) Begin the climb along switchbacks that are quite steep in places, facing the upper waterfalls. Reach Ibon de Bachimana Inferior.
(6) Cross a metal footbridge and go round the lake to the right. Note the Bachimana Refuge.
(7) Turn left to take a large footbridge perched atop the dam between Ibon Bajo and the Embalse de Bachimana. Pass between the two lakes and join theGR®11.
(8) Turn right towards Ibon Azul Inferior, following the Embalse de Bachimana Alto: a magnificent and spectacular sight. Further on, after crossing a torrent, the path turns left and heads west to reach Ibon Azul Inferior via an easy climb.
(9) The return journey follows the path back in the opposite direction to Ibon de Los Banos (S/E).
