From Calvera to the Obarr Viewpoint

Starting from the peaceful mountain village of Calvera, this round-trip hike leads to the Mirador de Obarra, which overlooks the magnificent Isábena Valley, in one of the least-visited areas of the Aragonese Pyrenees.

Guests staying at Casa Puixico can set off on foot straight away, without needing to use their car. The route passes through unspoilt mountain countryside and leads to a superb viewpoint offering panoramic views of Obarra Monastery, the Isábena Valley and the surrounding peaks.

The tranquillity is one of the great attractions of this walk. Calvera lies at the end of a small mountain road and, outside the mushroom-picking season, it is rare to come across other walkers there. Bearded vultures are frequently seen gliding above the cliffs.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From Casa Puixico, head to the main road through the village and follow it down.

(1) At the first signpost, take the track towards the cemetery. Continue to the second signpost.

(2) Leave the track and take the path that climbs towards the ridge and the Mirador de Obarra. The path climbs steadily from the start, gaining around 228 metres in altitude over nearly 2 km. Although relatively short, the climb is sustained and becomes steeper as you approach the ridge, with several short but fairly steep hairpin bends. The path is rough and uneven. Several sections feature loose scree, requiring particular care, especially on the descent. In places, vegetation and a few thorny bushes encroach onto the path: wearing trousers is therefore recommended. Once you reach the ridge, continue for about 10 minutes along an easy path that descends gently to the Mirador de Obarra.

(3) Enjoy the exceptional panoramic view of Obarra Monastery, the Isábena Valley and the Pyrenean peaks before returning to Calvera via the same route (S/E).
