From Bridge of Orchy to Kingshouse Hotel, West Highland Way

Start : From the Bridge of Orchy Hotel, along the A82.

(S) At the crossroads at the corner of the hotel, take the small road on the left (West) which slowly goes downhill towards the Orchy river. Take the bridge over the river.

(1) At the end of the bridge, reach a junction, leave the tarmac and take a gravelled path opposite slightly on the right. Climb gently, enter the forest and carry on going up hill.

(2) Turn left as the path curves and leave the forest. The path continues to climb gently, winding through the grassland (ignore a shortcut that cuts a bend). Come to the "Màm Carraigh" hill (cairn).

(3) Go downhill with a fine view of Loch Tulla below on the right. Reach a minor road and follow it to the left. Immediately cross a river to immeditelly reach the Iveroran Hotel.

(4) Carry on West on the minor road which soon turns right (North) after crossing a river. Cross a river again over Victoria Bridge and reach Forest Lodge.

(5) Then continue straight ahead, through a gate and onto a good gravel road: this is an old military road, follow it for 10km to a pass. Gently climb over an open ground and then along the edge of the wood on the right hand side.

(6) Past the wood, carry on North across the moor. Follow a wood on the left hand side and then slightly go down to a small lake.

(7) Carry on North on the path, at the foot of the summit on the left. Take "Bà Bridge" to cross a river and climb gently.

(8) Cross another river and climb very steadily to the pass (unnamed), dominated on the left by a small hill where a curious building in the shape of a small mill is erected.

(9) Continue North and start to go down hill. To the North, spot the valley where the A82 road passes and, to the West, the pyramidal summit of Buachaille.

(10) At a Y-junction, (Glencoe ski resort on the left), take the right-hand path.

(11) Reach a minor road and follow it to the right.

(12) Cross the A82 road (caution, fast traffic) and carry on the path opposite (gate). Walk North-West and reach the Kingshouse Hotel (E).

Equipment:
Waterproof hiking shoes. Waterproof gear: cape, backpack, etc. Protection against the cold, depending on your sensitivity. Repellent against midges.

Guiding :
The route is relatively simple to follow and the circuit is very well-marked at intersections. A paper map is useful (at least the one linked to this description) or the route on a smartphone (remember to download the offline map beforehand).

Take water and a picnic with you at the start.

- At waypoint (3) (Màm Carraigh): very nice viewpoint on Loch Tulla.
- Between (5) and (9): very pleasant climb to a pass, very gentle, in the middle of the moor and at the foot of beautiful summits.
- Between (9) and (E): beautiful views of the Buachaille massif.
