From Bernon to Brillac

A short round trip on the Tour du Golfe du Morbihan (TGM), from Bernon to Brillac in the municipality of Sarzeau. Magnificent views of the southern part of the gulf: the islands of Iluric, Godec, Stibidenn, Gohivan, Brannec, and further afield the larger islands: Arz and Île-aux-Moines. Swimming is possible in the summer months, particularly at Bernon and near Pointe de l'Ours. The coastline is mostly muddy along the route, but features a few small beaches. In winter, there are plenty of birds to spot! From November to April, after the rains, many sections of the path are very muddy, particularly between Pointe de l'Ours and Brillac.

Description of the walk

A small car park is available on Bernon beach. In the summer months, particularly from mid-July to mid-August, it can be difficult to find a parking space.

(S/E) Head west along the Chemin du Héron Blanc: follow the red and white markings of the GR®34. Then follow the path to the Pointe de l'Ours: stunning views of the surrounding islands.

(1) Continue towards Brillac.

(2) At this point, the path leaves the coast to go round an oyster farm. Follow the markings carefully to return to the coast and reach Brillac. You can take a break at the picnic area there.

(3) The return journey follows the same path in the opposite direction to Bernon beach (S/E).

Notes

Unless we are mistaken, there are no public toilets or taps for filling water bottles along this stretch.

On either side of Pointe de l’Ours, there are two oyster farms, one of which, La Cabane de Milo, offers tastings in season. There is also a kayak and small sailing boat hire in Bernon.

Good walking shoes, or even boots during the rainy season, are essential.

Worth a visit
