From Bernon to Fournevay

A short round trip on the Tour du Golfe du Morbihan (TGM), from Bernon to Fournevay, in the municipality of Sarzeau. Magnificent views of the southern part of the gulf: the Godec, Iluric and Ilur islands in the foreground and the Île d’Arz in the background. Swimming is possible in the summer months, particularly at Bernon and near its headland. The coastline is mostly muddy along the route, particularly at the bottom of the cove. In winter and spring, there are plenty of birds to spot! From November to April, after rainfall, many sections of the path are very muddy.

Description of the walk

A small car park is available at Bernon Beach. In the summer months, particularly from mid-July to mid-August, it can be difficult to find a parking space.

(S/E) Head north-east along the Chemin du Héron Blanc: red and white markings of the GR®34. Then follow the path to Pointe de Bernon: stunning views of the surrounding islands.

(1) Continue along the path until you reach private property.

(2) The coastal path goes round them. At high tide, the beach is impassable. Keep following the markings. For a very short stretch, the path turns left onto Route de Bernon, then leaves it again some 50 metres further on, turning left once more. Return to the coast then turn right. The path is well signposted. On reaching Porh Brillac, the path follows Chemin Marie Payen, which you should follow until the junction with Route du Golfe.

(3) The path follows the Route du Golfe south-east for about a hundred metres before veering left, staying along the coast to the end of the cove. At this point, the path rejoins the Route du Golfe to cross a small bridge. You’ll arrive at a picnic area with a car park.

(4) After a short break, head back in the opposite direction.

(3) On the way back, at a yellow signpost, turn left onto Chemin du Dolmen to visit the Porh Brillac Dolmen.

(5) Retrace your steps and turn left, following the route in reverse to reach Bernon Beach (S/E).

There is a kayak and small sailing boat hire in Bernon.

Sturdy shoes, or even boots during the rainy season, are essential.

Worth a visit

On 25/04/2026 we were lucky enough to see a great many Eurasian curlews – regulars here?

The Porh Brillac Dolmen is well worth a visit.

Throughout the route, take your time to admire the scenery, particularly the light at sunrise and sunset.
