In the greenery of Linkebeek

Linkebeek is one of the municipalities on the outskirts of Brussels. This walk takes in unspoilt landscapes, despite being close to the capital. These consist of woods, fields, meadows, parks, ponds and a small stream: the Linkebeek, which you follow for part of this walk.

Description of the walk

In the municipality of Uccle, take Avenue des Hospices towards Linkebeek, then park on Avenue Buysdelle, the first street on the left after the Avenue Dolhez crossroads.

(S/E) Continue along Avenue Buysdelle until you reach a crossroads.

(1) Take the stairs down to the right, which lead to Rue de Perk. Continue straight ahead across the meadows until you reach the crossroads with a small cobbled street on the left. This is theGR® 512.

(2) Follow this street until you reach a large farm. A path continues to the right across the fields. Leave theGR® at Elsgatveld, continuing along the same path, and arrive at Rue Hollebeek opposite a roundabout with a tree.

(3) Turn right, then left 200 m after the railway line onto theGR® 512. Be careful of traffic on this section of road.

(4) This path runs alongside gardens on the right and fields on the left, then continues across fields. Continue to the end. Leave theGR® 512 for theGR® 12 on the left. Go through a wooden gate (on the right after 50 m) and continue along the path towards the Kleetbos woods. Follow theGR® straight ahead and leave it to take thesecond path on the right.

(5) Continue to the exit gate. A sign indicates "dog playground". From this point, continue in the same direction along the small concrete main path, through a very natural park (the Kleetbos, then the Schavei park, which are connected).

(6) At the exit, take the small road on the right (Dwersbos), then Vijverdreef, the first road on the left. This road runs alongside a series of ponds on the right, which are unfortunately private and largely hidden by a hedge. Then join Rue de la Brasserie (Brouwerijstraat). Continue in the same direction via Kasteeldreef and Rue du Château (Kasteelstraat). The road passes another pond and then enters a tunnel under the railway.

(7) Go through the tunnel and take the path on the left just after the exit. Continue to the road (Avenue des Hospices), turn right, then take the first path on the right along the Saint-Éloi farm.

(8) Follow this path down to the stream (the Linkebeek) and turn left before the bridge. This path leads back to the starting point (S/E).

Be careful of traffic on the road between points (2) and (3), as there is unfortunately little room for pedestrians and cars often drive too fast.

There are no refreshment stops on this walk, as it avoids urban centres.

Worth a visit

Linkebeek is one of the municipalities with facilities surrounding the Brussels-Capital Region. As a result, all signs are in both national languages.
This municipality, which can be considered a suburb of Brussels, has managed to retain its rural character despite modern construction. It is easy to imagine that at the beginning of the last century, this area was still countryside criss-crossed by numerous streams and ponds. The first country houses were built at that time by the inhabitants of a Brussels that was much smaller than it is today. Note the old buildings resembling castles at points (6) and (7).

A lovely route on the outskirts of Brussels that takes us straight into the countryside. Thank you very much for sharing! If you have a dog, you can take a detour at point 5 to enjoy the fabulous dog park! We'll be back.
I only followed the location and not the description.

Please note: point 5 is difficult to access due to brambles and nettles. There is a small path further along on the right, 30 metres away.

A short, easy walk to stretch your legs in the countryside around Brussels. Crossing fields and small woods. No difficulty.

Pleasant walk. Unfortunately, the end of the route is poorly maintained.

You don't have to travel far to enjoy this walk, but for those who live nearby, it can be a pleasant discovery. The part in the woods is very nice. We easily found the path using the app.

At the end of the path through the woods, many dead trees lying half on the ground block the way.
