In the Great Forest of Saint-Hubert, immerse yourself among streams and woods.

Starting from the old Redu railway station, now converted into a lodge, take a walk through the Grande Forêt de Saint-Hubert, along the Ry des Glands, then the Ry de Houssi and finally along the Lesse. Immerse yourself in the forest, among conifers and deciduous trees.

Description of the walk

Departure from the car park near the Ry des Glands lodge, Les Glaumonts, Libin.

(S/E) Follow the N40 and pass in front of the lodge. At the railings above the stream, cross the road with caution.

Green rectangle + deer signpost

(1) Take the path right next to the road railing. Follow the stream on your left and you will come to a path.

(2) Continue to the left. The path turns left and passes over the stream. Then turn right, ignore the path on your right and follow the Glan, sometimes from a distance.

(3) At a place called Les Hougoulles, turn right, cross the log bridge and continue to the right. At the star-shaped crossroads just after, take the forest path furthest to the left. Walk for a little over 3 km to a place called Les Sartais.

No signposts

(4) Then turn right and follow the main forest path to the main road. Cross it carefully, ignore the path leading off to the left and continue on the path opposite for 300 m.

(5) Ignore the grassy path and continue to the crossroads.

(6) Turn right. Walk straight ahead along the forest path until you reach the fourth fork.

(7) Turn left and follow the path overlooking the Ri du Houssi. Descend steadily, staying on the marked path until you are walking close to the stream. When you reach the Lesse, turn right and follow it to the road.

(1) Turn left and return to the car park (S/E).

A very pleasant walk, especially in its final section along a stream that sings and flows generously at the beginning of spring. Despite several mild and dry days, some trails are still very muddy and require high rubber boots to be walked comfortably. On this day at the beginning of spring, walking through this almost deserted forest can seem a little monotonous, as the dense shade of the hundred-year-old fir trees makes the landscape uniform. However, one can imagine how much this thick canopy must offer welcome coolness during the hot summer months. Throughout the walk, even though it was a Sunday, we only came across a group of horse riders, adding to the impression of peaceful solitude.
