Description of the walk

Car park at the community hall, near the new cemetery.

(S/E) Leave the car park on the right and turn left onto Rue de la Mairie (signposted). Pass the Post Office and continue along the main street, Rue Pierre Loti. At the three-way junction, cross this street and turn left onto Rue Louis Pasteur, which runs behind the school. Pass the fire station and turn into the first street on the right, signposted ‘No Entry except for emergency services’. At the junction with Route de Tourch, turn left and continue for 50 metres. Opposite the Renault garage, turn 90° right into Hent Keryannic, which leads to the hamlet of Keryannic.

(1) At the entrance to the housing estate, turn right onto a path at the gable end of the first house and follow it to a flight of steps leading to the start of a footpath. Follow this path to the left. This is the route of an old railway line, identifiable by the work carried out to raise the track bed. Join the road leading to Kermoalic Farm on the left and follow it for about ten metres.

(2) Near the houses, an old signpost invites you to turn right onto a downhill path. Continue and, at the mountain bike sign, take a path on the right that has been cleared to avoid a very muddy section.

(3) Cross a small stream via a rustic footbridge. Continue along this path, which leads to the old Goulivars farm, which you go round to the right (public footpath). Pass between the two houses.

(4) Continue along the tarmac road, turn right and pass the entrance to Quélédern Farm. Pass under the high-voltage power line once and join the D150 linking Elliant to Rosporden.
Cross over (take care), continue straight ahead for about 300m and turn right towards the Quénéac’h Hervé farm, which you go round to the right, following a track suitable for vehicles and then a grassy path (opposite a very old oak trunk).

(5) Turn right and follow the path which gradually descends towards a small stream. Pass under the high-voltage power line a second time.

(6) At the stream, veer left and walk alongside a coniferous woodland. Join a road opposite the hamlet of Bulien. Turn right and follow this road for about 1 km. Pass the GAEC de Kerhuon and pass under the high-voltage power line for the third time.

(7) At the stop sign, cross the road and continue along the wide farm track, which becomes very narrow, stony and rutted.
Veer right to cross a stream over an old bridge made of large stones.

(8). Now begin the climb towards the village of Elliant along a wide, stony sunken track. This section is a little more difficult due to the gradient and the nature of the ground.
Pass the sports hall grounds on your right and join the Quimper road (D115). Turn left and continue for about 250m, passing the rear of the buildings of my Maison Familiale (vocational training centre).

(9) Turn right into a cul-de-sac,the second street (traffic mirror on the left), which continues as a path leading to Rue Saint-Yves, where you turn left.

(10) Take a concrete lane on the right to reach a small square near the church. Go round the church on the right, turn right and head for the landscaped green space next to the new cemetery

(11) Continue straight on to go round the cemetery and return to the car park on the left (S/E).

Notes

Toilets near the old town hall, 60m away.
The town hall has just moved to the former presbytery, at the end of Rue Neuve near the church.
No real signposting, just a few sporadic markers.
The best landmark remains the more prominent mountain bike markings (the route is mainly used by mountain bikers).

Between the (8) and the D115; the stony path is relatively steep.

Given the condition of certain sections in August, I very much fear that the route may not be passable in winter or after heavy rain.

Worth a visit

The route mainly follows country lanes.
Some lovely views of the countryside.
Old stone buildings.

A lovely route, but very muddy in places (at the end of April!). You can avoid some sections by taking the embankments...
In Goulivars, the wire stretched out by the homeowners acts as a deterrent, but you have to cross it anyway; we had a chat with them for a while and they were very friendly!
The path from point 7 to 8 has turned into a deeply eroded stream (after six months of rain) and the climb up to the village is very steep but dry.
Towards the end of the route, there are roadworks at the top of the concrete path; you need to turn left at the top to go behind the new town hall and reach the cemetery and the finish point (panoramic view).
The yellow markings are recent and well done.

Good evening,
Thank you for this feedback and the details, which I will be able to include in the description.
I’m not surprised that some sections are muddy.
I had pointed this out during a reconnaissance trip in August 2018.
Kind regards

There aren’t many roads, which is very pleasant.
At point 2, the old marker post mentioned in the description is located ‘after the first house’ and not ‘before the houses’.
At point 3, had it not been for the farmer’s intervention, we would have missed the passage between the two houses, as one of the residents had taken over the footpath (lawn and rope to block the way).
This is a walk to avoid in winter as the paths are very muddy, no doubt also due to the passage of farm machinery. On the other hand, the route must be particularly pleasant in hot weather as it is very shaded.
We’ll do it again next summer!
Thank you for these lovely walks.

It was a pleasant route; despite the time of year, we managed to get through without too much trouble.
We had trouble finding the path at point (2) – an old post? A local came to our aid.

As this route is very popular with mountain bikers, whenever we were unsure, we just followed the bike tracks!

Thank you for your directions – we really enjoyed our walk!

Another brilliant walk; clear signposting, with more footpaths than roads. Thank you for taking the time to make this possible for us.
