(S/E) From the car park at Urbès church, take the pavement opposite and follow the Grand Rue to the left for about 200 m towards the Col du Bussang. Take the tarmac road on the right towards the Tunnel Memorial. Keep to the right, pass the campsite then go under the viaduct and continue along this path towards the tunnel.
(1) At the last green house, take the Chemin du Mahrel on the right (Yellow Triangle). This tarmac road gives way to a dirt track. After about a 10-minute walk, look out for a sign on the right indicating an ancient Roman road. Continue to a bench at the foot of a beech tree, opposite a grassy path.
(2) Do not turn onto it straight away, but continue for a few dozen metres to stop by the small pond. Turn back towards the bench.
(2) Take the grassy path on the left (signposted Refuge du Haut Mahrel). This path (steep) is not signposted but easy to spot. Continue to the car park at the Refuge du Haut Mahrel, where the Amis de la Nature lodge is located.
(3) Take the path on the left towards Gustiberg / Drumont (Yellow Triangle). The path turns into a forest track and winds its way up through a pine forest, climbing quite steeply before emerging onto the tarmac road leading to the Gustiberg farm.
(4) Continue to the right for about 600 m, to the farm where you can stop for a break, have a drink and admire the view over the valley. Then continue along the path behind the farm to the next junction.
(5) Take the hairpin bend onto the path on the right (Blue Triangle) which passes above the farm across the stubble fields. Follow the pasture for about 200 m to reach the junction of the paths leading down towards Urbès.
(6) Take the path on the right leading to the Abri du Paradis Hisel (Blue Triangle). The path crosses a pine forest, cuts across a forest track and continues straight ahead to the shelter.
(7) Take the path to the left (Red Disc). The path winds through a beech forest to Urbès, crossing forest tracks several times.
(8) Cross the metal bridge and head down into the village. On the Route du Brisgau, turn right towards the village centre.
(9) Turn right onto the RN66 to reach the church and the car park (S/E).
