From Embrach to Uesslingen-Buch

Seventeenth stage From Les Rousses to Lake Constance via the Jura ridges. Through the landscapes of northern Zurich, this stage takes you from Embrach to Uesslingen-Buch, following the rivers and villages that line the Huguenot Trail. From hamlet to hamlet, you will walk along well-marked footpaths, between discreet forests, peaceful farms and typical bell towers. Gradually, the scenery opens up onto the vast agricultural expanses of the Thur Valley, signalling the proximity of the German border. This route, rich in heritage and contrasts, ends gently by the river, in the peaceful countryside of Uesslingen.

(S) From your bivouac site, head to the footbridge over the Töss. At the signpost, follow the direction of Neftenbach along Tössrietstrasse, keeping to the right of the river and heading south-east. At the bridge, cross Dättlikonerstrasse carefully , then continue along the Töss to the dam at the Pfungen power station.

(1) About 50 m after the dam, near a transformer, turn left onto Talgutweg, which climbs steeply (steps). Pass the ruins of Wartburg (site of Wart Castle) and continue climbing to the signpost at the intersection with Wartgutstrasse.

(2) Continue right on Wartgutstrasse towards the north-east. At the intersection, follow the road slightly downhill towards the north-east and continue to Wart Castle.

(3) Continue north-east until you reach the signpost at the intersection.

(4) First turn left then right following the direction of Neftenbach on the road lined with vineyards. At the signpost, turn left to climb up into the vineyard. Continue to the intersection in front of the Testaurant Museum Bistro.

(5) Turn right onto Bruppachstrasse, which descends gently through the hillside towards the south-east. Pass the Weingut Nadine Saxer winery and continue to the end of the street, at the intersection with Rosackerstrasse.

(6) Turn right (south-east), then take the left fork to join Chämiweg in the town of Neftenbach.

(7) Turn right to go down Chämiweg, cross the bridge on Umfahrungsstrasse, then at the bottom of the road, turn right to arrive in front of a wash house.

(8) Turn left onto Wartgutstrasse, then turn right at the signpost on the lamppost to reach a car park on the edge of Wartgutstrasse.

(9) Cross the car park and Wartgutstrasse and walk along the Näfbach (stream) on your right. At the end of the path, climb the stairs, cross Schaffhausenstrasse carefully and you will arrive at the signpost opposite Adrian Stahel's locksmith's shop.

(10) Head towards Riet and walk north-east to the footbridge over the Näfbach.

(11) Cross the footbridge, turn left along the Näfbach, pass the Badi Neftenbach swimming pool and a sports complex. At the end of the path, turn right onto Rietstrasse.

(12) Cross this street carefully and continue straight ahead on Seuzachstrasse. You will come to a stone sculptor's sign in the hamlet of Riet. Turn left, then cross the pedestrian crossing carefully in front of a signpost.

(13) Head north-east towards Seuzach on the footpath/cycle path along Seuzachstrasse. Cross Radhofstrasse carefully and continue straight ahead on the footpath. Walk to the safety barrier on Seuzachstrasse.

(14) Without crossing the barrier and remaining vigilant, turn right to pass over the entrance to the E41 tunnel and under a high-voltage power line. Then turn right quickly onto the path that descends southwards, following the E41 on your right. Pass under another high-voltage power line, then under an access ramp, before arriving at a signpost.

(15) Turn left towards Seuzach and, following the Chrebsbach stream, continue south-east to the railway bridge.

(16) Pass under the bridge and continue straight ahead until you reach a chalet located under a high-voltage power line.

(17) Ignore the side road and continue straight ahead, still following the Chrebsbach stream, until you reach the junction with the Seuzach-Zurich road.

(18) Cross this road carefully and continue straight ahead on the gravel path. At the signpost near a small bridge, follow the direction of Seuzach and continue to the next bridge.

(21) Turn left onto Stadlerstrasse, then right and left, and continue north-east to Seuzach station.

(22) Turn left and, after the pizzeria, carefully cross Stationsstrasse to take the tunnel that leads you to the other side of the tracks. Then turn right, then left after the bicycle parking area, and continue northeast on Brandbühlweg, following the directional signs. Be careful when crossing the street and continue northeast until you reach Brandholz Forest.

(23) Turn right, then left at the intersection to walk along the woods on your left until you reach the signpost at the crossroads.

(27) Take the small grassy path opposite, then at the three-way junction, quickly turn right towards the south-east. Pass a barbecue area, then join the car park of the Gasthaus Schlosshalde restaurant and the Schloss Mörsburg museum. Cross between these two buildings and continue to the signpost at the intersection with Mörsburgstrasse.

(28) Turn left towards Sulz/Rinckenbach. Cross the hamlet of Mörsburg, then turn left (north-west) onto the wide gravel path at the fork at the end of the hamlet. Turn right (south-east) and continue to the Mörsburggeistli farm (wash house).

(29) Turn left to walk alongside the farm, then at the fork, turn right to continue north-east on the path closed to motor vehicles. Follow this path past small ponds until you reach the Riedmühle restaurant.

(30) At the signpost, head towards Rickenbach, cross the Riedmühlestrasse with caution and continue to the edge of the Isenbachloo woods.

(31) Turn right (east) to cross the woods, then exit onto a country lane that passes by a small pond. Continue on to the Rickenbach fire station.

(32) Pass the fire station on your right, then continue along the path beside the Schwarzbach stream. At the junction with Hauptstrasse, turn left to cross the stream, then turn left past Rickenbach church. Then turn right onto Grüterstrasse and, in front of the wash house, continue straight ahead north-east onto Büelstrasse. Continue to the signpost at the crossroads.

(33) Turn left (north-northeast) towards Altikon/Stein Am Rhein. Pass two wash houses, then turn right at the fork in front of a farm.
