Access: From Oloron-Sainte-Marie, take the N134 towards Saragosse. After Bedous (diversion), turn right towards Lescun and immediately after the factory, turn left towards the Lhers plateau. After the winding climb, turn right (signposted "Ansabère") and continue to the end (car park).
You can park at the Lamareich car park (960 m). Alternatively, you can drive up to the next car park (Pont Lamary), but you must drive very slowly to avoid damaging your car and to respect the walkers using this track.
(S/E) Follow the dirt track, climbing gently to Pont Lamary (altitude 1175 m).
(1) Cross the stream via the concrete bridge and climb up the rather rough track opposite, towards the Cabanes d'Ansabère. When you leave the forest, you will arrive at a large pasture called Pla d'Ansabère.
(2) The path branches off to the left, crossing the stream. Climb through the undergrowth, still following a rough track. The Cabanes d'Ansabère are above the forest, at an altitude of 1560 metres.
(3) Follow the signs and turn left onto the path to Lac d'Ansabère. The path, now marked in yellow, begins to climb more steeply to reach Lac d'Ansabère (altitude 1859), a superb viewpoint over the Aiguilles d'Ansabère.
(4) Find a fairly well-marked trail behind the lake (south side). This trail initially climbs straight up the slope, then veers westward. This will take you easily to the unnamed border pass at an altitude of 1991 metres.
(5) After admiring the vast panorama, take the path that descends on the Spanish side and soon turns sideways. This crossing leads to a flat passage on a shoulder where you can see the large Ibón de Acherito lake.
(6) Do not descend towards the lake but head along the hillside (general direction: east). Aim for a gap between the Pic du Lac de la Chourique and the Pic de Laraille, named Brecha de Hanas on the Spanish IGN map. You will need to cross some very large boulders, which is not difficult other than needing to watch your step. Once below the gap, find a path that climbs steeply, zigzagging. The last ten metres are very steep: it is a good idea to use your hands at times, as there are excellent handholds.
(7) The breach (altitude 2,035 m) opens onto a slightly less steep slope where the path zigzags downwards in the same way. You must still be careful not to roll stones onto other members of the group.
(8) At an altitude of around 1,850 m, the scree gives way to a grassier area with a few rocks, between which the well-marked path winds its way down. Stay in the valley all the time. The slope gradually becomes gentler and turns to the right (north-east).
(9) At an altitude of 1,580 metres, pass above the Fontaine Bourrégué. Continue eastwards, then cross a stream and turn north (elevation 1,552 metres); the path is well marked. Enter the beech forest after crossing an area of large erratic boulders.
(10) At the edge of the forest (around 1280 m), the path turns sharply to the left. The path then disappears more or less into a vast pasture; continue north to reach Pont Lamary.
(1) From the Pont de Lamar car park, turn right and head for the Lamareich car park (S/E).
