Description of the walk

The walk starts at Place la Mairie, in Cuverville-sur-Yères.

(S/E) Head towards the church and turn left onto Rue de la Motte Féodale (D258).

(1) Head towards the bridge over the Yères, pass the Château de Cuverville-sur-Yères (ruins), then continue to the D16. Cross the road (take care) and take the path opposite, which starts to the right of the house.

(2) At the junction on the edge of the forest, turn right (circular signposting). Turn left at the crossroads, then right, about 250 metres further on. Follow the path as it curves to the left. Stay on the main path, ignoring the turnings to the right and left, and rejoin the D258.

(3) Turn right for 200m, then take the path on the left. At the T-junction, turn left and head straight ahead into the forest.

(4) At the junction, turn right onto theGRP® des Forêts de Haute Normandie (yellow and red markings). Turn right again onto theGRP® and, 300 metres further on, continue to a fork at the edge of the forest.

(5) Turn right to walk across open ground and reach the D78.

(6) Turn right and follow the road leading to Baromesnil. At the junction, carry straight on along Rue du Fayel (D78).

(7) In front of the chapel (with the château on your right), turn right, then turn right again at the wayside cross, 150 metres further on. Continue straight on until you reach the edge of the state-owned forest.

(8) At the junction, turn left and carry on straight ahead along the path that leads to the eastern edge of the forest, then turn right to follow the edge.

(9) At the T-junction (elevation 139), turn right and continue straight on at the next fork to reach Impasse du Tost in Sept-Meules, then the D16.

(10) Cross the road (take care) and take Rue de l’Eglise opposite. Turn right into Rue de l’Yères, level with the church and opposite the town hall, passing the school on your left. Cross the River Yères and follow Rue de l’Yères, turning right at the Fork in the road.

(11) Turn into the first road on the right (Rue de Normandie), towards Cuverville-sur-Yères. After 300m, take the path on the left which passes in front of the cemetery and follows the high-voltage power line.

(12) Where the high-voltage power line goes underground, take the small path on the right that runs alongside the power line fence. Follow the fence as it turns left before the edge of the forest.
After 4 m, take the path on the right that leads into the forest; follow this path for 600 m.

(13) At the junction, turn right and follow the main path which branches off to the right after 60 m, then head down to the tarmac road.

(14) Once at the bottom, at the junction, turn left towards Cuverville to return to your car (S/E).

Great route, lovely trail.
At point 12: there really isn’t much to help you spot the path going uphill; I relied on my GPS and it worked out fine.
However, the path is almost invisible; I had to make my way through young bramble shoots for about 150 metres. After that, the path widens a bit; be very careful not to twist your ankles here, as the path is quite uneven.
I reckon that within the next one or two months, the path will be completely overgrown with brambles along those 150 metres.

Thank you, Bernard Popiol, for this lovely route (this morning I walked the one in the Yères Valley around Criel-sur-Mer).

Hello François
Thank you for your comments. The path at that point isn’t well-used or maintained; it’s always difficult to spot, and it’s easier to end up following the path you’ve mentioned. I’ll update the walk accordingly.
Thanks again.
Enjoy your walks.
Bernard

A lovely, varied route, enjoyed in the sunshine of early May. The scenery is very pretty and the route is peaceful.
The only problem was at point 12: the path through the woods is no longer visible and the GPS track on the app isn’t reliable. You need to go round the small headland in the woods, passing close to the high-voltage pylon, and head into the forest, cutting straight through. The path is actually at the edge of the trees, to the right of the recorded GPS track. You’ll eventually come across a path that leads back down to the village, which I think is easier.

Thanks for your reply, Bernard – we did indeed see that high-voltage power line lying on the ground!...

Thank you, Michèle, for your comment on point 12.
I did go there; it’s true that the path isn’t very accessible any more since the Covid pandemic, and on top of that the high-voltage power line had fallen to the ground, so I couldn’t get through. I’ll go and have another look next time.
Thanks
Enjoy your walks

A lovely walk with reliable directions up to point 12, where we couldn’t find the path! We walked through the field along the edge; because of the brambles, it was impossible to get back into the woods. After quite a bit of difficulty, we managed to reach a path and find our way back to the track that took us back to Cuverville. Total distance covered: 15.45 km. Apart from that, it’s a very pleasant and well-described route. Thank you

A lovely walk to enjoy in all weathers, with superb views, but at point 12 it’s very difficult to find the path. There are no markings. It’s also a shame that some ill-intentioned people have blocked the path with rubbish to prevent people from passing at the exit of the Cavée in Cuverville. But I’d like to congratulate the people who created this route.
