Access: From Les Gets, take the road at Les Perrières towards Mont Caly. Follow it to the end and park in the car park after the restaurants.
(S/E) From the car park, follow the sign for Col de l’Encrenaz; do not take the steep path but follow the road that goes round the hamlet and continue as far as the farm.
(1) Take the track on the left (closed to cars) and continue along a wide grassy path. This first section is mainly through woodland with gentle ascents and descents. Continue to the “Les Quenes” junction.
(2) Continue along the path without taking any turnings. Pass under the Chéry Nord chairlift and head down towards the hamlet of l’Encrenaz. Cross the car park and the road to continue straight ahead.
(3) At the Col de l’Encrenaz, head uphill and take the track on the left until you reach the ‘L’Encrenaz’ sign at the junction.
(4) Continue along the track leading to Les Paquis (Chemin de la Marée Dessus). The climb is very gentle, mostly through woodland, passing a few renovated farmhouses and open spots where you can admire the scenery. Cross five streams and arrive at Les Paquis.
(5) Take the path that climbs to the left. The ascent leads to the vast Col de la Basse.
(6) At the pass, continue to the right along the well-marked path that climbs below the ridge line. Higher up, it veers towards the Roc d’Enfer to reach the Col Ratti.
(7) At the pass, head north-east, continuing along the path which, a few metres further on, turns right and follows the ridge. This route, which presents no particular difficulty, should be avoided in wet or windy weather.
(8) At Pointe Ratti, there is a magnificent panorama: the peaks of the Chablais, Lake Montriond, Avoriaz, Mont Blanc, the Aravis, the Roc d’Enfer… Descend by following the upper part of the ridge back to the path taken on the way up and reach the Col de la Basse.
(6) From the pass, take the track on the right, heading due south, towards the Col de l’Encrenaz via l’Aup. Pass by the houses and restaurants and reach l’Encrenaz.
(4) Then head down to the right to the Col de l’Encrenaz.
(3) At the pass, cross the road and the car park and follow the same track as on the way up, but in the opposite direction, until you reach the junction (elevation 1516).
(2) At the junction signposted for the Col de Lachat (a variant of the Mont Chéry circuit), head left up the marked path through the forest. The start of the climb is steep, but the gradient eases off further up. Continue to the Col de Lachat.
(9) At the pass, there is a panoramic view of the Col Ratti, which you have just climbed. Then take the track on the right, which climbs slightly and then descends towards Mont Caly, which you will soon see, along with its car park (S/E).
