Description of the walk

At Mas Gibert d'Ardaillers, park in the small car park in the centre of the farmhouse. It is possible to start from the village of Notre-Dame-de-la-Rouvière to avoid the final climb (I don't have a car park to suggest). This hike largely follows the local hike called "Bonperrier".

Red and whiteGR®® markings and yellow markings

(S/E) Go back down the main street of Mas Gibert, head west to the beautiful fountain and wash house. Look for theGR®®6Bmarkings, which you should follow for the entire first part of the hike. Turn right at the crossroads, walk about 20 metres to the right, then turn left. At the T-junction, turn left. Turn left at the next fork to climb up a path that looks like a dry stream. Join a street and follow it to the right.

(1) Just after the bend, turn left onto a stony path (drinking water point, wooden sign for Bonperrier). Climb, with no other paths to choose from, until you reach the ridge at a path junction. Look for a marker a few metres to the right and head towards it.

(2) Lacam andGR®®6and 67 marker. For a round trip, turn left to reach the Bonperrier sheepfold (sheep in summer pasture, with their border collie dogs).

(3) Retrace your steps to the Lacam marker.

(2) Continue straight ahead on the track. After the antenna, it turns into a beautiful path. Arrive at the Crouzinal marker and continue straight ahead for another hundred metres to reach the Col de l'Homme Mort marker.

Yellow markings

(4) Leave theGR®® markings and turn right towards Puech Sigal. Continue downhill, without taking any other paths, until you reach a small grassy plateau with a ruined sheepfold and a picnic table, Les Quatre Jasses.

(5) Pass to the right of the ruin and continue downhill.

(6) Ignore a path on the right, which may be a shortcut to Ardaillers (and Mas Gibert). Continue downhill and, further on, you will come to a path on the left leading to Puech Sigal (wooden sign). Reach this hamlet and the signpost of the same name. You will also findGR®®(6B) markings.

Red and whiteGR®® markings and yellow markings

(7) Turn right towards Notre-Dame-de-la-Rouvière. At the bend in the road, continue straight ahead on the path.

(8) Ignore the yellow-marked path on the right, which is another shortcut to Ardaillers. Continue downhill, cross a path and arrive at the Le Réservoir signpost.

(9) Continue downhill towards Notre-Dame-de-la-Rouvière. When you reach a road, continue on the path to your left. You will come to a concrete path which you should follow, turning left to enter the centre of Notre-Dame-de-la-Rouvière. You will reach the Notre-Dame-de-la-Rouvière Place signpost, near the church.

(10) Turn right towards Notre-Dame-de-la-Rouvière Entrée. You will soon reach this signpost and continue straight on towards Bonperrier. At the fork in the road shortly afterwards, keep left (even though the road on the right goes up to Ardaillers). Continue along the road. Further on, cross the Valat de l'Homme Mort, immediately pass under a bridge, then find a small road branching off to the right.

(11) Follow it to the end, shortly afterwards, and continue on the path that extends it. You will come to a crossroads of paths, at a small rocky outcrop (be careful not to miss it, as the other path is also marked in yellow).

(12) Turn right and continue climbing. Further on, stay on the path and do not take the path that runs parallel to it. Come out onto this path further on and follow it to the right until you reach a road.

(13) Follow it to the left and ignore the paths branching off to the right. You will reach Mas Gibert and the car park (S/E).

A magnificent hike in the Cévennes.
We set off from Notre Dame de La Rouviere, where there is a car park for hikers and a signpost just below the main road (on the right) after the church.
On the way back, there is therefore no need to climb back up to Mas Gibert.

Hike completed in early September in strong winds, very few people and a very well-marked route.
However, it was marked as 16 km, but our watch recorded the circular route as 18 km.

A very beautiful hike with superb views throughout.
This is a variation of the Pont Moutonier route without the Col de l'Asclié pass.

Very pleasant path
Last climb back up is a bit steep
Watch out for leaves covering the stones in autumn
