Description of the walk

On the D170, when you reach Peyregrosse, take the bridge over the Hérault and continue for about 50 metres to find a small car park on the right-hand side of the road, next to the Peyregrosse hiking signpost.

No signposts

(S/E) Take the road back to the bridge, cross the river and join the D170. Cross carefully and follow the path that climbs up opposite, to the right of a small cross. This is a beautiful stone path that was once used by young villagers to go swimming in the Hérault. The path crosses the D420 three times. The fourth time, first turn left then right for about 20 metres to find the path again. You will come out once more on the D420, at the entrance to the village of Saint-André-de-Majencoules.

(1) Follow the road to the right, then the hairpin bend to the left. You will arrive at the Saint-André-de-Majencoules Parking sign. Continue towards Saint-André-de-Majencoules. At the fork in the road, go up to the right to reach the town hall, former castle (information board), then go down a staircase to arrive at the church square. Note the Saint-André-de-Majencoules signpost.

Yellow signposting

(2) Follow the street to the right towards Les Rouquis. Note the old mills and the leat, which is somewhat neglected. At the intersection, turn right at the hairpin bend.

No signposting

Shortly afterwards, climb the stairs on the left, Montée de l'Ancienne Forge. In front of the lodge, take the stairs on the right that lead back down and rejoin the street you left earlier.

Yellow markings

Follow it to the left, passing a fountain and a wash house on your left, cross the bridge over the leat and continue along the street, ignoring the stairs on your right. At the fork in the road, keep left, ignoring the path that goes straight ahead in the hairpin bend. Further on, ignore a path on the right, level with a property.

(3) Immediately afterwards, turn right onto a path that climbs uphill. Cross a path three times. Further up, you will arrive at the Les Rouquis marker, at an intersection with theGR®®60.

Red and whiteGR®® markings and yellow markings

(4) Follow theGR®® on the left towards La Rouviérette. You will arrive at a street in this hamlet, at the signpost of the same name. Follow the same markings on the left towards Combe Croze and continue to this signpost.

(5) (It is possible to reach Saint-André-de-Majencoules by taking the path on the left.) Continue straight ahead on the road towards Les Quatre Chemins. After about 150 m, take a path on the right that cuts across a bend in the road and then rejoins it. Follow it to the right and you will come to a crossroads (Les Quatre Chemins, cross, picnic table).

No signposts

(6) Follow the D170 to the left towards Saint-André-de-Majencoules. At the fork in the road, turn left towards Lubaguet. Shortly afterwards, at a bench, you will see a large cross set back on the right. Cross a hamlet, staying on the road, then, at a cross, you will find the yellow markings that arrive with the path on the left (which descends from La Rouviérette).

Yellow markings

Continue along the road and reach the village of Saint-André-de-Majencoules. Ignore a hairpin road on the right and, shortly afterwards, you will see a staircase leading down to the right. Continue straight ahead for a few metres to see the old spinning mill, then retrace your steps and take the staircase on the left. Continue along the path until you reach a street, then turn left. You will arrive at the church and the Saint-André-de-Majencoules signpost.

No signposts

(2) Retrace your steps along the outward route to return to the car park (S/E).

Much of the hike takes place on a small country road, not at all in nature.

Quite a challenging hike at the beginning, steep and walking on stones.
Poorly marked but walking in the forest on the first part, which is pleasant in summer when it is very hot.
