Description of the walk

Road access: from Seix, head towards Guzet (D3) and at the hamlet of Pont de la Taule, turn off towards Couflens / Salau, passing through Couflens and then Salau. Pass the first car park and continue along the road to park near the old mine buildings (end of the road).

(S/E) Walk towards the buildings; the path starts between two buildings on the right, and the climb begins. Follow this well-marked path. You will notice the remains of the mines on the right.

(1) Shortly after crossing the small stream, the path climbs to the left, winding through the forest to emerge at the entrance to the cirque.

(2) On your right, you can see where the stream disappears (square metal grating; be careful, there are many holes in the grass).
The path continues at the back of the cirque, passing to the left of the cirque and disappearing into the stream for a while. Continue to the waterfall.

(3) Return via the same route to the car park (S/E).

Notes

There is mobile phone coverage at the car park but no GPS signal; the path is easy to follow and well marked.
There are plenty of stones on the path; the climb is steady, steep and shaded.
We have already spotted chamois, birds and a herd of cows.

Worth a visit

Former tungsten mine.
Route of Cougnets starting from Salau (passes by the car park).
Karstic cave of Anglade.
For those looking for a steeper climb, you can set off from the village of Salau (park just before the Bar des Myrtilles).

it's a short hike but with a significant elevation gain at the start of the trail, so just take it at your own pace! The arrival at the cirque is magnificent. We walked to the waterfall and saw some chamois. Despite it being a morning in August, we were alone, which was wonderful. Definitely worth doing again.

A short hike that takes you to a small natural haven where you can often spot chamois on the slopes. Unfortunately, year after year, there is less and less snow at the bottom of this cirque. The waterfall is superb.

A short hike best done very early in the morning (we set off at 7.15 am) to spot the chamois at the bottom of the cirque. The climb is steep.
Don’t hesitate to make your way to the bottom of the cirque and even climb up near the snowfield. If you’re quiet, the chamois will stay fairly close.
