Description of the walk

Park in any available spaces along Avenue Mequillet.

(S/E) Walk down the avenue to the town hall.

(1) Walk underneath it, then turn left onto Place Fernand Zeyer to go behind the post office and right next to the Château des Princes and the Square de l’Autel de la Liberté. Continue along the ramparts and turn right onto Rue des Remparts, which overlooks the bus park. At the end, continue straight ahead to stay on the same street, which runs right past the Church of Sainte-Marguerite. Then take the bend and go up the steps on the left, which lead to the Cour des Bergers. This courtyard runs between the medieval fortifications and offers a view of Josepha’s sculpture entitled “La Dame du Parc”. Right next to it is the Porte Haute.

(2) Continue along Rue du Steckgraben, located opposite. Keep to the right at every junction to follow the ramparts. At the end, you’ll come to the entrance to the town hall. Directly opposite, on Place de Weil, stands a sculpture by Frédérick Maroselli named Morrigan.

(1) Pass under the town hall again and, this time, do not turn immediately left onto Place Fernard Zeyer, but continue up Rue du Général de Gaulle. Turn left onto Cour du Châtelard, which leads to the former castle of the Counts of Montbéliard-Württemberg. Opposite the castle, turn left towards the ramparts. At the end, you’ll find the Square de l’Autel de la Liberté. Go round the square, turning right twice to reach Rue Héderich. At the end of the street, turn left onto Rue de la Couronne and look for the Maison de Félix Haussmann

(3). Turn right onto Rue Dinzheim. At the end is the Court of Strasbourg. Turn right onto Rue de la 1ère Armée, then left onto Rue Latérale. Then turn left onto Rue du Cheval, then right onto Rue de Sébastopol to reach the Dolder. Go under the building, then turn left onto Rue des Juifs to reach the Tour des Voleurs and the museum entrance.

(4) Return to the Dolder and walk down Rue du Général de Gaulle before turning right onto Rue du Cerf to reach a property dating from 1574. Then return to Rue du Général de Gaulle and walk down to the right. Next, turn left onto Rue des Orfèvres. At the end, walk past the former Saint-Erard Church and arrive at the Protestant Church of Sainte-Marguerite.

(5) Walk round the building to the left, passing the Maison de la Sage-Femme. When you reach the church entrance again, facing the war memorial, turn left onto Rue des Trois Églises. Then head down Rue du Général de Gaulle to the left. Pass the Maison du Gourmet, then the house known as the “Nid de Cigogne”. One house also features a bay window dating from 1514, whilst another is nicknamed “Le Gratte-Ciel”. Just past “Le Gratte-Ciel”, you will find the Maison du Conseiller Ambroise Dieffenbach. At the corner of the house, turn left onto the street and walk past the Maison de Dominique Uff Der Bruck. At the end of the street, you will find the former Méquillet property. Then return to the previous junction and turn left onto Rue de la Monnaie. Turn right onto Rue Belzlaub, then left onto Rue du Général de Gaulle to pass under the town hall once more.

(1) Once on the other side, turn right and head for the car park (S/E).
