Route between Albanais and Vuache

Start from the car park on the edge of the D17, Route de Clermont, near the Sillingy community centre.

(S/E) With your back to the car park, turn left onto the D17, ride through the centre of the village, pass close to a telecoms mast and arrive at a junction.

(1) Turn left onto the D3, towards Vaulx. Pass through Quincy and Le Biolley, and follow the D3 until you reach the church at Vaulx.

(2) Turn right onto the D44, towards Saint-Eusèbe. Enter Ancien Chef-Lieu and reach the junction a few metres past No. 1116

(3) Leave the D44 and head uphill to the right onto the Route de Pesey. Pass through Saint-Eusèbe, continue along the Route des Morgues and arrive in Pesey.

(4) Pass through the hamlet and continue on the D38, then turn right onto the D17, enter La Combe-sur-Sublessy (Combe de Sillingy on the map) and reach a multi-way junction.

(5) Turn left onto Route de Sublessy, towards Mésigny. Ride through the village until you reach a roundabout.

(6) Carry straight on along the D207 towards Annecy, pass through Mésigny and reach a junction on the outskirts of the village.

(7) Leave the D207 and turn left. Follow the D7 downhill until you reach the roundabout at the bottom of the hill, after passing through Sallenôves.

(8) Take the^second exit onto the D1508, towards Frangy. Stay on this road for 1.1 km until you reach the junction, on the right, with the D123, towards Contamines-Sarzin.

(9) Take this road and follow it as it climbs steadily. Pass through the village and continue uphill, staying on the D123 until you reach a four-way junction at Marlioz.

(10) Turn right onto Route du Chef-Lieu and follow it downhill. Pass the town hall, leave the village and arrive at a junction in the wide hairpin bend on the D7.

(11) Leave the D7 and turn left onto the Route du Pont Mostan, which is not very visible and slightly dilapidated. You’ll reach a crossroad at the bottom of the valley.

(12) Turn left, cross the Pont Drillot and follow the D27 to the junction near the church at Copponex.

(13) Pass the church and the town hall, leave the village and follow the D227 to Chosal.

(14) At the junction, head left uphill and follow the D227 towards Ronzier. Begin the climb and continue to the roundabout at the top of the hill.

(15) Turn right onto the D1201 towards Les Ponts de la Caille and you’ll soon reach the next roundabout.

(16) Take the^first exit towards the Ponts de la Caille car park and use the access road leading to the bridge. Cross it by bike or on foot, depending on how busy it is.

(17) At the end of the bridge, turn right, follow the D3 for 2 km and you’ll reach a roundabout (Carrefour des Quatre Chemins).

(18) Continue straight ahead on the D3 towards Choisy until you reach the roundabout in Rossy.

(19) Take the^third exit, Route de Mandallaz. After about a hundred metres, you’ll see the magnificent château on your left; leave the village and continue on the D272 until you reach the junction at Les Lavorels.

(20) Turn right onto the D172, towards Ferrières, and ignore Cuvat on the left. Follow the road to Bromines and you’ll reach a junction at the bottom of the descent.

(21) Turn right, then, at the roundabout, join the cycle path on the right. Follow the^{D908B, then} turn right onto the Passage des Combes, then continue along the Route des Combes de la Blache and onto the cycle path. Follow it to the roundabout, go round it on the right and go through the two tunnels under the D1508.

(22) At the end of the Passage du Relais, turn right, then take the Route des Ferrières on the right, followed by another right onto the Route des Marais de Culas. At the end, turn left onto the cycle path that runs alongside the D17 and, at the roundabout, head straight ahead to reach the car park on the side of the D17, Route de Clermont, near the Sillingy community centre (S/E).

(9) Please take care; the D1508 is a very busy road.
(11) This small road offers a shortcut to the D27, which is quite busy.
(16) Pont de la Caille: cross as best you can; there’s a small snack bar at the start of the bridge.

The return journey via the cycle path is really quite tricky; around Chaumontet, you’ll have to navigate a bit by feel.

Allow for 100 m less elevation gain, making it around 1,100 m, as the software calculates the elevation at the bottom of the gorge where the Ponts de la Caille are crossed.
