Start from the pretty hamlet of Les Gandy (996m), a few characterful houses, with parking at the entrance to the village.
(S/E) Cross the village following the road, which will soon become a path that climbs quite quickly above the houses, offering views of Le Granier, the Col de l'Alpette and Le Pinet.
(1) When you reach Le Platon (sign), take the path furthest to the right, 20 metres before the sign.
The path passes below an isolated chalet equipped with solar panels.
(2). At this chalet, leave the path and look for a trail on the ridge above the path.
This section of the route is not marked, but there is a nice path that climbs up the ridge. This path leads to a crossroads.
(3) When you reach the three paths, take the middle one, which is not marked on the IGN map but is marked with snowshoe signs and a yellow wooden arrow.
This path continues to climb to an altitude of 1,261 metres, then turns onto the northern plateau of the small resort of Le Désert. When you leave the forest, continue downhill. The plateau is criss-crossed by cross-country ski trails and snowshoe routes. Head west towards the Col de la Cluse (1,169 m), which is also an easily identifiable road pass.
(4) At the pass (signs), head towards Col du Cucheron. Until you reach the pass, follow the yellow markings next to a cross-country ski trail.
(5) From this pass (1,241 m), walkers and snowshoers are on their own.
Follow the trail, still marked in yellow, to Grand Jet.
Along the way, there is a beautiful view of the Grand Som and the Dent de l'Ours.
(6) At Grand Jet (sign), head into the forest and take a path that is sometimes very steep and slippery, leading to the Granges de la Tournette. The markings are still yellow.
(7) Granges de la Tournette is an abandoned hamlet that is gradually falling into ruin, but there is one barn in good condition with an attractive roof structure.
The sign offers two directions. Ignore the path that descends to Saint Pierre d'Entremont and take the other one towards the Col du Cucheron.
The path, which is still well marked in yellow, first crosses a stream and then climbs up into the mountain pasture.
When you reach "Sur le Nant", a sign indicates Platon is 100 metres away. This is the last steep climb of the day.
(1) Take the same route back to the right until you reach the car park (S/E).
