Parking your car in Roses is a daunting challenge. The blue zone by the sea is free out of season (October–May), so if you’re lucky enough to find a space, leave your car and explore on foot.
(S/E) Leave Plaça Catalunya heading south-east (towards the port) via Carrer Doctor Sunyer (shops and restaurants), then turn left onto Carrer Ginjolers. Follow the lanes up to the large roundabout. Take Carrer dels Grecs, the second street going up to the right.
(1) Turn left onto Pitàgoras Street and follow it as it winds its way past the beautiful villas.
(2) Leave Rue Pitagoras at the last bend on the right and take the path leading off to the left. Very quickly turn onto the path on the right. Pass the small dolmens of Del Cap de l'Home and del Llit de la Generala. Continue eastwards.
(3) At the junction, take a look at the menhir of Casa Cremada I on the left and turn back.
(3) Continue to the left.
(4) At the next junction, look to the left at the stone hut.
(5) Turn back.
(4) Continue along the path to the left towards the south-east. It veers westwards then south-westwards to pass in front of the Casa Cremada II menhir and ends at another path to follow on the left to reach the Mas de la Casa Cremada.
(6) Turn right to see the small menhir at Casa Cremada III; it’s a bit of a let-down, but the view is lovely.
(7) Return to the junction.
(6) Turn right; you’ll see the stone hut El Caur de les Guilles on your right, and continue downhill. Walk alongside an olive grove to reach the large dolmen on the left, known as the dolmen de la Creu d’en Corbatella.
(8) Walk down to the road.
(9) Follow the road for 50 m to the left and turn left onto the path which climbs very steeply. Walk past the vineyards on the right and arrive at the small dolmen known as Cave del Rec de la Quarantena I. Turn back and take the path which branches off to the left towards the large dolmen known as Cave Qarentena II: enjoy the exceptional view to the south. Head back down to the road.
(9) Once on the road, head back up towards the dolmen and return to the fork you passed on the way up.
(6) Head up to the right. At the fork, follow the path that heads off to the left towards the north-west, then descends towards the town to join Rue Homer.
(11) Turn right onto Rue Homer to reach Rue Pitàgoras and head down it to the left until you reach the original fork.
(1) Walk down Francesc Macià Street to the seafront. Turn right and walk along the beach to the car park (S/E).
