Paulin (a hamlet of Monistrol-sur-Loire – small car park with a bus shelter when approaching from Champravie, after passing the N88)

(S/E) At the crossroads, near the central reservation, turn left, following the yellow markings. Soon after, leave the tarmac to the left, heading north, and pass under a power line. At the junction with a road, turn sharply right towards the south-east. Pass a junction on the left and reach another crossroads (on the right, a road coming from Paulin which offers a shortcut).
(1) Turn left and head east. Ignore a path on the right and continue to a junction
(2) Take the Chemin de la Perrière on the left. Pass to the right of the house. Head uphill through woodland and farmland until you reach a small road. Follow it to the left. Further on, turn right to join the D 12.
(3) Follow the road to the right for a few metres, then turn left towards Salgotier. Cross the hamlet and continue along the path leading downhill. At the junction with the perpendicular path, turn right and continue downhill. Ignore the start of a path on the left leading to the Prat farm. Turn southwards until you reach the Route du Bouchet.
(4) Turn left, following the PR®® “Route de l’Écureuil” signpost (1 yellow stripe). Leave Mathevard on your right
(5) Cross the Semène via the bridge and head for the hamlet known as Les Mazeaux. Pass between the houses, then head uphill into the woods. Continue through open country until you reach a crossroads.
(6) Head straight ahead to reach a road running alongside a sports ground. Turn left, then turn right onto Avenue Jean Bonnevialle. Head south until you reach the D 500. Turn right onto it and follow it for about a hundred metres until you reach the junction leading to the town hall, housed in the former railway station.
(7) Turn left and head towards the ZA de la Source via Rue des Droits de l’Homme. At the end of the street, turn right onto a path that crosses the Semène via a footbridge.
(8) Continue through the Vaujalat woods until you reach another footbridge. Cross the Semène to the right to reach the leisure area (picnic area).
(9) Return to the footbridge, then turn right down the path towards the former abbey and rejoin the ‘official’ start ofthe PR®® ‘Les Dames de la Sauve-Bénite’ trail (you can visit the permanent exhibition in the former abbey before setting off again).

With your back to the abbey, turn right, cross a car park and head up to the road (D 500).
(10) Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and take Rue de Champ des Granges opposite. Further up, continue towards the Oratories of Sainte-Marguerite. Pass the spring near one of them. At the last houses, continue along a dirt track. Pass under a high-voltage power line and turn off to the south. Leave the houses of Sabot on your right before coming out onto a small road.
(11) Follow it to the left for 150 m. You’ll reach a five-way junction. Take the path on the right, skirting the Bois du Knoll de la Chaud, heading south-west. Pass the entrance to La Goutte on your right, then turn west
(12) At the crossroads in the Bois de Perpezoux, turn right towards the Bois des Dames. At the clearing, take the left-hand Fork in the road. Keep left at the second gap in the trees. On leaving the woods, head towards the road.
(13) Turn right onto the grassy path between the fields, which soon returns to woodland. Walk down to the Ruisseau de Paulin and cross it. Walk back up to the Route des Murs de Paulin
(14) Turn left to return to the hamlet of Paulin, where you can park (S/E).
