Porz Poulhan route on the Cap Sizun side

The route starts at Porz Poulhan harbour in the commune of Plozévet. You can get there from the village of Plozévet by following the signs for “Porz Poulhan” (the C3 road, near the bakery). You can also get there from Plouhinec by taking the D784 towards Plozévet and turning right onto Rue Jean Guillou just after the church. There is a car park at Porz Poulhan harbour.

(S/E) Leave the car park on the right, heading towards the harbour. Walk past the bar “Les Côtiers” and, opposite it, take the small path that runs along the shore to the right of the harbour. At the Porz Poulhan navigation light, the path turns right and leads to a crossroads just after.

(1) Turn right and walk 200 m to visit the site’s first covered walkway.

(2) Return to the navigation light.

(1) Turn right towards the west. The path follows the shoreline.
After a tarmac section, look out for the beautiful seaweed kiln on the left-hand side of the path.
The path continues and leads to a viewing platform marking the prehistoric cave of Menez Drégan. Access to the cave itself is prohibited.

(3) Then head up the path that branches off to the right and leads further up to the cairn and the Menez Drégan Interpretation Centre.

(4) After visiting this exceptional site, head back down to the coastal path.

(3) Follow it to the right until you reach the car park at Gwendrez Beach.

(5) At the beach car park, carefully cross the coastal road, keeping the small stream on your right, and take the sandy path which climbs gently and skirts the dune on its right-hand side, between the dune and the stream. Soon the path enters the woodland. You’ll reach a crossroads of paths with a traditional wash house.

(6) Turn left and, after 150 m, you’ll reach the Chapel and the Fountain of Saint-They.

(7) Return to the wash house.

(6) Continue straight ahead heading east. At the hamlet of Kergoz, rejoin the road leading to Kerruc and follow it to the main road that descends to Porz Poulhan. Turn right and follow the road downhill for 150 metres to reach the T-junction which leads, to the left, towards the Domaine de Tréouzien.

(8) Turn left towards the estate. A little further on, head down to the right towards it. At the houses, the road gives way to a wide track. After 150 m through the woodland, the Tréouzien Mill comes into view on the left. Do pop in for a visit.
Return to the previous track and turn left onto the path which leads downhill back to the car park (S/E).

At the harbour, try some traditional fare: platters of smoked fish from Cap Sizun.

Complementary route starting from the same point: “Pors Poulhan route on the Bigouden side”. A great opportunity to combine the two routes with a picnic stop at the harbour.

Pors Poulhan: statue of La Bigoudène. This statue is the work of the Plouhinec-based sculptor René Quillivic. It was unveiled in 1961 and marks the entrance to the Bigouden region.

Tréouzien Mill. Built in 1784, it features remarkable architecture. Recently restored, it was still in operation in 2019. Visits in July and August from 2.00 pm to 6.30 pm. Do make a detour to see it.
