Departure from the town hall square in Gentioux-Pigerolles.
(S/E) From the square, take the grassy path to the left of the town hall that climbs to the edge of the woods. Follow it to an intersection.
(1) Continue left into the woods, pass two intersections and, after a few hundred metres, you will reach another crossroads.
(2) Take the track on the left, leaving the grassy path on the right. Follow it for 2 km. About 200 m after the high-voltage power line, you will reach an intersection.
(3) Leave the gravel track and follow the path opposite until you come to a granite marker on the left.
(4) Then turn right: the path climbs slightly to a tarmac crossroads. Cross it and continue straight ahead along the path that descends towards Paillier for 1 km. Go straight ahead through woods and meadows to a crossroads.
(5) Take the path on the left to reach the picturesque hamlet of Paillier.
(6) In the village, visit the 12th-century chapel. Behind this building is a 16th-century calvary cross decorated with flowers, a 19th-century ironwork piece, the notary's house and the village houses. Retrace your steps.
(5) Take the path lined with low walls on the left: it climbs through the pastures before joining the D8 (watch out for traffic).
(7) Take the D8 to the left for 250 metres, leaving the D35 on your left, then turn right onto a path that descends. Pass under the high-voltage line and reach a crossroads.
(8) Leave the path that climbs towards the quarry on your right and take the path on the left that runs alongside the woods and the stream. Pass to the left of a house on a wide path and join the D16, which leads to Lézioux.
(9) Pass the 16th-century flower-covered calvary cross on your left and take the first path on the right. Go straight up, pass the summit (granite cross on the right), then descend the long path through the forest until you reach the D8.
(10) Follow the road to the left and head to Gentioux-Pigerolles, whose cemetery contains tombs sculpted by Jean Cacaud. Head to the town hall square (S/E).
