Sange Valley Circuit

On the edge of the Sologne, this circuit brings together the typical landscapes that make up the charm of this natural region near the Loire: meadows, ponds, forests, interspersed with crops and pretty brick houses. The little river Sange brings it to life and gives it a little relief.

Marked in yellow, this route is also signposted in places as "PR® de la Vallée de la Sange - P 11". Despite two sections on the road, 70% of this circuit is on unpaved paths.

Description of the walk

(S/E) From the church square (small car park), take the road towards Villemurlin (D254) and follow it for 2 km, continuing straight ahead.

(1) In the countryside, after the crossroads, turn south onto the path on the left across the fields.

(2) At the crossroads in front of the Briquenelles farm, turn left and stay on the main road, continuing straight ahead.

(3) When you reach the GR® de Pays Sentier Historique des Rois de France, turn right (there is a shortcut on the left to return directly to the village).

(4) At the clearing marking the crossroads, turn left, then cross the river via the footbridge (or the ford if you want to cool your feet).

(5) At the small road that marks the junction with another circuit coming from Saint-Florent-le-Jeune (PR® des Bruyères), turn left to stay on a shaded forest path, which you follow straight ahead.

(6) Pass the overflow and climb up onto the Étang Dupuy dyke. After the pond, keep left to stay on the main path, continuing straight ahead.

(7) Follow the slight bend to the left and stay on the main path, continuing straight ahead.

(8) At Les Moulinarts (an old mill on the Sange river with a small original dovecote), take the small access road to the right, then immediately take the path to the left, following the property. Continue straight ahead.

(9) At the edge of the woods, take the small road to the right, then immediately take the Route Départementale (D63) to the left, which will take you back to Saint-Aignan-le-Jaillard. Stay on the shoulder on the left side of the road.

(10) At the crossroads in the village, take the pavement on the left along the Rue Nationale (D951), which will take you back to the starting point. (S/E)

I found the entire beginning of the route interesting and tedious. It starts with 2 km straight ahead on a road with no pavement and frequented by cars driving very fast... Then in the fields, there are no trails, but rather grass/dirt roads (muddy that day) full of tyre tracks and more loooooong straight lines...
It improves around points 5/6 in the forest, and from there on, it's a walk in the woods, which I really enjoyed.
