Route exploratoire autour de Pompignac

For many years, the municipality of Pompignac has taken great care to preserve a green, wooded area around the village, which has enabled it to create a very pleasant circular walking route, in collaboration with the Communauté de Communes des Coteaux Bordelais and the Gironde Department. The path is well signposted (follow either “Ceinture Verte” or “Circular Path of Pompignac”).

Description of the walk

The start of the route is signposted from the car park located between the stadium and the playground in Cadouin Park. Bus 471 stops nearby (though the timetable isn’t very convenient).

(S/E) Head towards the D241 and look for a small path on the left, before the junction. Follow it for 50 m before carefully crossing the main road (the signposting is there to show you where to go). A path branches off opposite. After 100 m, it turns left onto Chemin de la Lande, on the edge of a residential area.

(1) The next junction takes you across Chemin de Brondeau. Continue straight ahead onto Chemin du Maine.

(2) The next junction takes you across Chemin de Saint-Paul. Continue straight ahead along a path, which is still well signposted. After about 300 m, walk under a high-voltage power line, leaving it shortly afterwards as you enter a pleasant wooded area. The path leads back onto the main road; follow it carefully for 50 m to the right.

(3) A small road branches off to the left (Route de la Poste), but the path to follow is more clever than that. It branches off this small road and heads into a meadow (caution: private property, access permitted by agreement with the town hall). The path joins the River Laurence and follows it. It is also possible to follow a path that goes straight through the undergrowth and runs alongside the Route de la Poste.

(4) At the site of an old mill, take a path to the left running alongside the Capéranie, a tributary of the Laurence.

(5) You’ll come out onto a wider (dirt) track: turn left. Head uphill through the woods, more or less following the river.

(6) You’ll reach the road leading to the church; cross this to take a path directly opposite; cross another small road immediately afterwards. The path then runs alongside a fitness trail (with exercise equipment).

(7) Head uphill into a woodland. Numerous paths branch off to the right and left. There is little risk of getting lost if you follow the signposts or the track using GPS.

(8) Once you reach the top of the woodland, turn left and head back down. After that, simply follow the signposts to return to the car park where you started (S/E).
