Description of the walk

In the hamlet of Crussac, park near the cross and fountain.

(S/E) Head east for about 20 metres and take the road on the right. After about 200 metres, follow the dirt track to Route de la Plane.

(1) Turn right towards La Croux. At the entrance to the hamlet after the right-hand bend, take the dirt track on the left. Follow this old vineyard track downhill for about 2 km until you reach the intersection with a forest track.

(2) Take the track on the right until you reach the bend at the quarry. Across the hillsides, there is an impressive, unspoilt view of the Lot Valley and the meandering river.

(3) Please note: if there is a hunt in progress, follow the marked diversion.
At the bend in the quarry, leave the track on the left to climb the only difficult part of the route and overlook the Rocous climbing site. To get there, follow the route indicated on the left. Once you reach the esplanade, follow the single track that winds its way through the vegetation and offers superb panoramic views of the Lot Valley. Several stops along the way allow you to discover the legends of the area as you make your way to the Gachou waterfall.

(4) You will need to leave the trail for about a hundred metres to the left, but don't hesitate to take a break at the Gachou waterfall. Retrace your steps to rejoin the route and reach the old mill.

(5) Go around it on the left, go up the tarmac road, cross the bridge and continue to the intersection. Turn left and head to Heath on the left (beautiful houses decorated with flowers).

(6) In the hamlet of the Heath, take the path on the right to the next hamlet of Lacombe. In this hamlet, turn left and join the D135.

(7) Turn right, turn left again at the first road, which becomes a path, then take the forest track on the left. Except on hunting days, a signposted detour allows you to continue on the path towards Grignac (3 km shortcut).

(8) When you reach the Grignac road, turn left until you reach the D135 at the crossroads near a cross. Continue straight ahead, following the road carefully for about 500 m towards Le Nayrac until you reach the start of a path between two fenced plots before a slight right-hand bend.

(9) Leave this path on the left and take the grassy path on the right that runs alongside a plot of land. After the stream at the edge of the woods, turn left to reach Crussac.

(10) At the road, turn left to find the cross and fountain of Crussac (S/E).

Worth a visit

(S/E) Right from the start, the path opens up to wide panoramic views. The gentle route takes you past pastures and hamlets with their quiet activity.
Gradually, the path narrows and your steps will lead you to the old vineyard paths. You will experience immersion in the vegetation of broom, trees and shrubs.

Across the hillsides, you will be captivated by impressive views of the Lot valley and the meandering river.
You can stop off to discover the legends of the region, admire the waterfalls at Moulin de Gachou and then return to the open plateau.

(S/E) After your exertions, the village of Nayrac (a village in bloom) will welcome you with its leisure area (1 km), bars, hotel-restaurants and grocery store (1.5 km).

A magnificent hike with a succession of varied landscapes: agricultural countryside at the start, then a panoramic path above the Lot valley, returning via pretty paths dotted with small, peaceful hamlets.
Not difficult but rewarding throughout (4 hours). Some unmarked sections and confusion with the Trail d'Aqui, however. Botanical blooms in spring: sublime. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful routes in the Estaing-Le Nayrac area.
