(S/E) Park in the Pont de l'Île de Ré car park.
(1) Find the cycle path that leads to the island at the back of the car park. Once at the bridge, turn right onto the white path that runs along the sea, Chemin de Pampin, until you reach the first oyster huts.
(2) At a place called La Maréchale, take the road on the right for a few metres, then immediately turn left onto the cycle path that leads back to the coast.
(3) At the restaurant "La Cabane du Pertuis", the path joins the Front de Mer road. It leaves it a little further on to run along it on the left, then crosses it to run along it on the right and finally rejoins it to arrive soon at Port du Plomb, via Rue du Port
(4) Continue along the sea wall towards the southern entrance to the port and its slipway. Go around the basin.
(5) Cross the footbridge and continue along the right bank towards the northern entrance to the port
(6) Continue on the right, then turn left.
(7) Pass in front of the restaurant "Le Café de la Mer" and continue to the last houses.
(8) At the last house, the white path branches off to the right. Leave it and take the path that runs along the cliff: stay well back from the edge.
(9) At Pas de Mortefoin, 200 metres further on, you will find the white path again. Turn right and then, 100 metres further on, turn right again to return to Port du Plomb.
(8) Turn left, then veer left a little further on to pass behind the Café de la Mer and rejoin the path you took on the way there.
(5) After the footbridge, continue straight ahead to reach Rue du Port. From here, follow the same path as on the way there in the opposite direction to return to Pont de Ré and the car park (S/E)
A lovely walk along the coast. No difficulty and the option to continue to Nieul-sur-Mer along the same path, effectively doubling the distance.
