(S/E) From the car park exit, take the coastal path along the seafront until you reach Rue du Moulin, then Avenue Albert Sarraud. Turn right onto Promenade Théodore Porsain and continue in the same direction along the cycle path. At the end of the path, continue carefully along the D735 until you reach the sign for the town of La Flotte-en-Ré.
(1) At the sign, turn right onto Rue de la Grande Vallée and head towards the beach. Continue left towards Fort de la Prée. At the end of the beach, take the coastal path to the right of the boat ramp.
Continue along this path
(2) Go around Fort de la Prée and continue to Chemin de la Maison des Hertaux (the path after Rue de l'Écluse des Moines). Follow the sign for the abbey.
(3) Turn left onto Chemin des Hertaux and at the end turn right towards the old Abbaye des Châteliers, which is now on your left.
(4) After visiting the abbey, return to Chemin des Hertaux and continue left onto Route de la Pointe des Barres until you reach a fork. Turn left and take Rue des Marais to reach the coast. Continue along the coastal path to the small port of La Flotte-en-Ré.
(5) After visiting the harbour, follow the shopping street known as Rue du Général De Gaulle. At the first crossroads, go straight on to Rue Gustave Dechezeaux, then at the next crossroads, turn left onto Rue Gaston Lem. At the end of Rue Gaston Lem, turn right onto Rue André Favreau. Then continue along Rue du Puit Lizet until you reach the well.
At the square by the well, turn right onto Rue des Barbotins and continue to the end. Then turn left towards Place Baptiste Bernard and continue to Rue du Puits Liloux, which you will take to the right towards the main road.
(6) Cross the main road and follow Chemin des Jourdinières opposite. At the first three-way junction, about 50 metres away, take the path on the right. Continue straight ahead and turn right at the crossroads, then take the first left onto a sandy path.
(7) Continue straight ahead until you pass under a power line.
(8) Continue straight ahead. The path is sometimes narrowed by branches, then it opens up away from the trees.
(9) At the fork, turn left onto a wider but still sandy path (south-east). Cross other paths and enter the undergrowth. Come out onto a clearing.
(10) Take a small, very narrow path on the right through the undergrowth.
(11) Join the Sentier du Littoral coastal path and turn left. Continue straight ahead, following the signposted "five landscapes" route. At the junction with a tarmac road (Chemin du Fond des Bragauds), continue straight ahead.
(12) At the end of the straight road, turn left. Continue straight ahead until you reach Rue du Bois Fleury, which leads to the coast.
Turn right towards the small village of Rivedoux-Plage and cross through the town centre on Rue Jules Ferry.
(13) At the edge of the village, turn right at the roundabout onto the D201 to the beach. Turn left and head to the car park (S/E) via Rue de la Surveillance and the D735.
