Description of the walk

Departure from the "Marie Hélène Salvant" car park at the Saillac cemetery. Access to this grassy car park next to the cemetery is from the Cavagnac road. Avoid parking in front of the cemetery entrance wall, as it could be obstructive.

(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left towards Saillac, then immediately right towards Meyssac. Continue along this road for about 100 metres.

(1) Turn right onto the gravel path (GR®480) towards the D28. Cross the road and take the tarmac Impasse de Mazeau opposite, then continue straight ahead on the dirt track for 100 metres. Turn right at the three-way junction until you reach the small road that leads to a farm.

(2). In rainy weather, the passage near the farm buildings is very difficult due to mud and tractor tracks.
- If it is impossible to pass, follow the tarmac road to Le Baudet.
- Otherwise, continue to the crossroads and turn right to the hamlet of Baudet. Follow the road to the right for 50 metres.

(3) Take the grassy path on the left, which is not very visible, just next to the rubbish bins and an electricity pole, before the recently built houses. Follow this barely visible path through a walnut grove, running alongside the power line. Cross the D32 and continue straight ahead towards Dorval. Ignore the path to the Dorval wash house on the left and continue to the crossroads.

(4) Turn left onto Route de la Croix Blanche. Follow this road for 140 metres and turn right onto the path that goes uphill; continue to Route de Saint-Palavy (D11).

(5) Turn left until you reach the crossroads. Ignore thefirst road on the right and take thesecond on the right, called Route du Bourg Castral, towards "Église Romane" (Romanesque church) (cross and bench). Continue to the church, making sure you don't miss the viewpoint on the left.

(6) Turn around, pass the crossroads (cross and bench) to return to the fork you passed on the way there, but not before admiring the castle and church, which you can walk around.

(5) Follow the road to the left for 100 metres and, at the cross, take the path to the left (wash house a little further down on the left).

(7) At the crossroads, turn left and 40 m further on, follow the path on the right. At the three-way junction 50 m further on, take the path on the left and descend to the bottom of the valley, ignoring a path that climbs to the right. Cross a small stream. Continue along the path that climbs uphill. A few hundred metres further on, ignore a wide path on the left and continue straight ahead for 50 metres.

(8) Turn 90° right onto a stony path that climbs up to a road. Cross it to take the Chemin du Mas Del Bos opposite. After the buildings, continue straight ahead along the fence on the left on a grassy path (yellow markings). At the road, turn left towards Saint-Palavy. Turn left just before the church, pass it and then the wine press to take the Route du Pressoir, which climbs up to the castle and passes in front of a wash house. Continue to the crossroads.

(9) Turn left onto the small Route des Quatre Croix. Continue straight ahead to the Carrefour des Quatre Croix (there are actually four crosses).

(10) Take the path on the right that passes in front of the shed housing a still (information panel) and follow this path down to the Combe Redonde farm.

(11) At the buildings, turn onto the path on the left. The passage can be tricky in wet weather due to mud. Continue to the next crossroads and turn right at the shed. 260 m further on, turn left and then immediately right. Pass in front of the cemetery and return to the starting point (S/E).

An interesting hike due to its architectural heritage.
The elevation gain is 214m, not 165m.
Varied landscape.

Between points 6 and 5 at the end of the path, do not turn left at the cross, but 100 metres further on (2nd cross).

A very pleasant route combining remarkable heritage and bucolic paths. We set off from the heart of the beautiful village of Saillac, which is very well maintained and well worth a visit (walnut museum). Parking is easier there.
It's a shame we didn't have the patience to wait for the sun to do its job and dry out the paths, as some sections were like streams and very slippery.
Despite this inconvenience, we really enjoyed this route, which presents no difficulty.
Thanks to its creator.

Beautiful route. It's a shame that trees block the path. At point 2 near the farmhouse, and between points 5 and 7 shortly after leaving the road.

Easy hike, very interesting. Be careful, however, at point 3, where the markings are not very clear.

A very beautiful hike in dry weather with no difficulties. Beautiful houses and, above all, the castrum of Cavagnac.
A very relaxing experience.
