Description of the walk

On the D150, head towards Turenne-gare, pass over the Tourmente river and then immediately under the railway line. On the other side of the railway line, turn right and immediately park on the hard shoulder on the right-hand side of the road.

(S/E) Pass under the railway line again and cross the Tourmente via the D150. On the other side, at the T-junction, turn left.

Leave the D150 on your right and continue straight on the D162 Route de Gernes (these roads, although departmental, are narrow and have very little traffic).

(1) Turn left onto a path. Cross the Tourmente river, then follow the railway line on your left. Take the bridge to cross to the other side, ignoring the path that immediately branches off to the left. Continue along the path that returns to the railway line and follow it, more or less at a distance, on your right.

(2) Further on, turn left and begin the climb towards the village. Cross a road at a few houses and continue on the path opposite. You will arrive at the end of a street in Turenne.

No signposts

(3) Turn left onto Chemin de Saint-Paul, then take the first right onto Rue du Château. Pass a picnic area on your left and walk below the castle. At the bottom of the rocky outcrop topped by the tower, take the street that branches off to the left and to the right of the rock, on the side of the castle entrance. Take the first street on the right (Rue de la Cavotte), at the turreted house. At the intersection, turn left and then, at the three-way junction shortly after, keep to the right. Pass below the Tour du Calvaire, follow the hairpin bend to the right and pass along the Collégiale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Pantaléon, arriving at a T-junction.

(4) For a return trip to the village's central square, Place de la Halle (and possibly for a more in-depth exploration of the village), turn right.

(4) Back at the crossroads by the collegiate church, continue straight ahead and, immediately at the fork in the road, turn right down the GR®®.

No markings

(5) At the fork in the road, leave theGR®® and continue downhill on the left-hand road. Ignore the hamlet of Baladre on your left and stay on the road that leads back to the car park (S/E).

Overall, a pleasant route, although it is a shame that a large part of it is on tarmac (at the start and end). Some points could be better signposted: at points 2 and 5; but no problem with GPS. Most of the walk is in the shade of trees and is not difficult.

A short walk that is ideal for exploring Turenne off the beaten track
No difficulty

One downside regarding maintenance: weeds are particularly overgrown on the last climb up to the village
