Countryside and Canut valley via the Streams and Landes routes

A route allowing you to see the countryside and woods around Lassy, then reach the Canut valley and the moorland.

Best done clockwise to finish with the moorland and the view of the Canut valley.

Please note: the Canut crossing between (9) and (10) can be difficult after heavy rain.

There are a few road crossings, but visibility is fairly good to very good, making it easy to cross, but caution is advised.

Description of the walk

Park in the church car park, located along Rue de la Fauvette.

(S/E) Leave the car park via the pedestrian crossing and head towards the church. Walk past the church entrance, then turn left and walk along the left-hand side. Join Rue Léon Piel at the end of the church and turn left to follow the Streams Route (abbreviated to CdR).

(1) At the next crossroads, continue straight ahead along a wooded path (PR®). At the crossroads (elevation 84), turn right (CdR). At the end of the path, follow Rue Pierre Marie Josse to the left and immediately turn left again towards L'Olivrais (CdR). After about 100 metres, turn right onto a path that runs alongside the houses. After another 100 metres, take a wooded lane on the left (CdR).

(2) At the T-junction, turn left (leaving the CdR on your right). At the road, continue to the right and cross the hamlet of La Deumais. Then cross the D776 and take the road opposite towards La Pilais. Take thefirst left, a road that soon makes two right-left turns. At the end, continue along a path. At the T-junction (elevation 69), turn right. Reach the Ruisseau de la Potinais stream and turn right onto the path that runs alongside it.

(3) At the intersection, turn right and follow the CdR again. Turn right with the path, then left. You will come to a small road; follow it to the left for a few dozen metres.

(4) Just before a turning area, take a path on the right and walk along a wood. Join the D62. Cross carefully and continue straight ahead on a small road, then on the path that extends it. Join another small road at La Bosselais and follow it to the right. Cross the Pont de Lassy road and follow the path opposite, turning left, with the D776 on your right.
Please note: leave the Ruisseaux route to follow the Landes route.

(5) Continue around a right-hand bend, then a left-hand bend after the houses. Follow the widest path, Route des Landes, which branches off to the left (elevation 92), until you reach a small road and La Chutelais. Take the path on the left at the bend in the road. This path joins the D776 . Cross with caution, even if visibility is good on both sides, as cars travel quite fast!

(6) Once you have crossed the D776, continue along the path on the right that runs alongside it. Follow this path through a first left-hand bend that takes you away from the D776. Cross a stream (not very visible depending on the season) to reach a small wooded area. Take the first left-hand bend followed closely by a right-hand bend, still following the Route des Landes.

(7) Leave the Circuit des Landes, which branches off to the right, and take the path on the left, which quickly turns right towards the north. Continue for about 400 metres and take thefirst path on the left to rejoin the Circuit des Landes (abbreviated to CdL, which arrives from the right; do not leave it until you reach Lassy). Continue straight ahead at the first T-junction.

(8) Turn left, then take thefirst path on the right. At the T-junction, go left. At the next intersection, turn left again. Follow the CdL, which descends with bends. Join the Ritoir and the Maison des énergies (bench, shelters, WC, river and mill).

(9) Take the footbridge to cross the Canut and immediately turn left, following the river. After about 50 metres, take a path on the right that goes uphill. After about 100 metres, take a path on the right and follow the CdL. Cross beautiful landscapes of moors and stones. Follow this path straight ahead until you reach a crossroads with a barrier and signs.

(10) At the barrier, take the path on the right that descends towards the Canut. Cross the river via a stone slab bridge. Follow the route that climbs opposite via a wide stone path. Further up, ignore a path on the right and turn left. Reach the hamlet of La Vieille Cour.

(11) Follow the CdL eastwards. At the next intersection, turn right onto the widest path on the right, which joins Rue de la Croix Saint-Michel. Turn left into the street.

(12) Continue along Allée de la Noé on the right, then at the end take the path that turns left to join Rue Georges Picot. Turn right, then at the end turn left into Rue du Presbytère to join Rue de la Mairie, with the church on your right and the car park on your left (S/E).

Hike done with my 15-year-old son. The trail was very muddy, especially in the first part, with paths turned into small streams. I would say that the first 5 kilometres are not very interesting. I imagine this is also due to the season, as the fields are not very glamorous in winter... The passage through the moors is nice after a short climb, and there are some very enjoyable views. Be careful on the second passage over the Canut after points 10-11, which is actually on a stone bridge. In case of heavy rain, it is impassable, but for us it was just fine. Finally, to get back, you return to the "urban" area.
There is a shorter route that only covers the moorland, which is preferable in winter.
This route should be more enjoyable from spring onwards.

Hello,

I am sorry that you did not enjoy this hike.
It's true that this trail follows and crosses several paths, some marked and some unmarked!
Normally, if you follow the instructions and the map, it is fairly easy to follow and allows you to choose the right path.
The signposts are designed for a specific route, either by the Town Hall (in colour) or by the FFR (in yellow), according to standards and location requirements.
This requires a little attention and map reading to stay on the right path.

Enjoy your hikes on other paths.

The start is very poorly signposted!
You get lost at one point because there are two sets of signposts that cross each other, and that's where something needs to be done.
There aren't enough signs on the trees or barriers.
It's a shame because it should be a beautiful route!

This hilly but accessible route is a real pleasure, with the Canut Valley and its pleasant rugged terrain as a reward.
Easy navigation with Visorando on your smartphone (no subscription required).

The route is not clear enough, as there are two signposts and it is easy to get lost.
The start is poorly signposted.

Hello, and thank you for following this hike.

It is true that this hike is not marked, as it is not referenced by the FFR (PR and GR), the municipality (Chemins de Pays, etc.), which is the case for most of the suggestions on the site.
It is a combination of several tracks on different paths. In principle, it is fairly easy to follow, either by reading and following the description or by downloading the track to a GPS or mobile phone.
The choice not to follow only marked paths allows you to discover other paths, enjoy greater peace and quiet, and take full advantage of nature.
Certain viewpoints, stream banks and forest paths would not have the same charm if everything were easy. It is this difficulty that makes us appreciate them, like a reward for our efforts.
Having searched for other paths around Lassy, it is clear that this is a very wet area. As soon as it rains heavily, many paths and trails quickly become impassable, even outside of winter.

Enjoy your future hikes.

A beautiful hike to do in summer, but probably impracticable in winter in some parts. It's a shame there are no
signposting, forcing you to constantly check the route.

The first 2 kilometres are uninteresting. I would even say that you almost need a machete to clear a path through the brambles, nettles, ferns and other wild grasses. This section is clearly not maintained! . I really do not recommend doing it.
Otherwise, from the stream in the woods onwards, it's not bad. Be careful, though, as there are some very wet and muddy sections, even at the end of July. And finally, of course, the Canut valley, which you overlook during the last part, is very beautiful.

A beautiful hike that follows two marked routes in succession. You just need to be careful and check your route, as the most obvious route is not always the right one.

A very interesting hike in its western section, stretching from the departmental road to the village of Lassy, with the other section being fairly standard; beautiful moorland landscapes and interesting discoveries (stone bridge and mill).

Short but very interesting and varied walk around the Canut. Very varied landscapes: fields, forest, moors. Very beautiful little stone bridge over the Canut.
