From Lassy, access to the protected natural site of the Canut Valley is signposted. The car park is located near the Landes de Bas farm.
Green ladybird arrow markings (very prominent).
(S/E) With your back to the car park, head west along the wide path that borders the meadows. At the first fork, turn right, then left at the next fork. Continue along this wide path which descends into the undergrowth.
(1) At a left-hand bend, continue straight ahead, pass a wooden chicane and follow the stony path that gradually descends towards the bottom of the valley. This path does not appear on the IGN map but is very well marked and signposted. You will arrive at a small stone bridge that crosses the Le Canut river.
(2) Cross the bridge and turn right to follow the only path that climbs up the other side of the valley. At the first fork, keep to the left-hand track, between moorland and heather, to reach the top of the plateau, where you can enjoy views over the countryside to the south-west of Rennes. Note the purple colour of the rock, which is also found in the local buildings.
Be careful, especially with children, as there are no safety barriers at the edge of the escarpments.
(3) Continue south and, after about 150 m, turn left and descend to rejoin the river.
(4) Cross the river via a wooden footbridge. Bear left towards the old Ritoir mill, which has been converted into the Maison des Énergies (Energy Centre). Near the centre, a grassy esplanade with a picnic table and original toilet is well integrated into the natural environment. Continue up the slope, taking the time to observe the low vegetation and the purple rock that still outcrops.
(1) At the wooden chicane, turn right and continue on the path you took on the way up. Be careful at the next fork, turn right, leaving the wide path that continues straight on towards the farm. Then turn left and follow the beautiful lane that leads to the car park (S/E).
