A magnificent hike, but quite difficult with a heavy backpack (see the climbing sections with large holds, but still climbing 😅). We recorded a route of around 22-23km with approximately 1000m of elevation gain and 1100m of elevation loss in 6 hours and 20 minutes, excluding our lunch break.
Otherwise, the conditions in early October are very pleasant, with sunshine but not too hot, and less crowded than in summer, I imagine.

Exceptional hike.
Magnificent views of lesser-known coves (Oeil de Verre, Devenson cliffs).
More difficult route than stage 1 between Callelongue and Luminy.
Hike completed in 6½ hours to the Port of Cassis (excluding breaks).

@visonolu2026: The elevation estimate is calculated automatically by the IGN model. It is always slightly underestimated when there are a lot of ascents and descents.

It would be great if you could post your inland return route on Visorando.

Superb hike. I think it's 2 or 3 kilometres longer than indicated, and the elevation gain seems greater (GPS). We took the inland route back, which is different but offers some beautiful views.

It is simply the best hike in the entire region!

It combines walking and swimming. You can swim at Sugiton (start of the hike), En-Vau and Port Pin (end of the hike). The rest of the time, you're up in the hills.
Make sure you bring enough water; I drank 4.5 litres.

A small improvement to the route and description at point 8. Don't stay on the GR, but follow the green path that stays on the ridge. Otherwise, the GR forces you to descend into the valley and climb back up for no reason.

A small variation for the more athletic: after point 6, take the path that descends gently to the cove of St Jean de Dieu or Œil de Verre, then climb back up via Pas de l'Œil de Verre and Cheminée du Diable. Very steep with some climbing passages, but doable without a rope.

Total time with this variation and including stops (including a 45-minute picnic and a 1 hour 15 minute swim stop at En-Vau): 12 hours 30 minutes.

A very beautiful, very challenging hike in 30°C heat. Make sure you take enough water. I had 2.5 litres, which wasn't enough in this heat. Avoid in summer. It was very busy only from En-Vau to Cassis.

The description uses cardinal points (north, east, etc.), which may not be familiar to everyone, but you can easily follow the route by looking at the map. A very beautiful hike, quite challenging, but with opportunities to swim in the invigorating coves!

Hello hikers,
i wanted to know, I'd like to hike from LUMINY to CASSIS over two days, but do you think there's a place where we can camp out on the fly? I know it's forbidden, but if we're careful...

We did a superb hike in trail mode.
We struggled a bit to find the right direction (we started off on the wrong side), but once we got on the right track, everything was fine.
We covered 20 km to the port of Cassis and 1,000 metres of elevation gain.

Highly recommended for the views of the various calanques.
There are three slightly tricky sections, and the return from the En Vaux cove to Cassis, where the elevation gain is quite significant.
This may be a bit difficult for children.

The second stage of this hike is more difficult than the first. It took us 9½ hours to reach the M8 bus stop. We didn't make the detour to the En Vau viewpoint, but we did take the time to go swimming twice! The first part of the route is difficult, with a lot of climbing up to point 8! A beautiful hike that's well worth the effort!

We spent the weekend in the Calanques. Amazing! We saved ourselves the trip back up to Luminy by camping in Surgiton instead. GREAT!
Please note that the GPX track does not correspond to point 8. We took the GR instead of going around via the Calanque de l'Oule.

We completed this stage in 8½ hours, taking our time. It was a magnificent stage, even more beautiful than the first (and more challenging too), with superb panoramic views and breathtaking vistas of the most beautiful coves (better views from above than from the beach with its "tourists" and...rubbish). The path along the cliffs was very beautiful. There were a few "technical" sections requiring the use of a chain, but nothing too difficult.

Be careful, if you are relying on public transport to return to Marseille, the shuttle service connecting Marseille to Cassis stops at 6.30 pm. You can take the train, but be prepared for a steep climb (after 8 hours of walking, it's a surprise at the end of the route )
