In Bagnères-de-Luchon, head towards Superbagnères. After 5 km, follow signs for Hospice de France (D125). Park about 100 metres to the right.
(S/E) Start the walk on the Route de l’Hospice de France for about 250m.
(1) Turn left onto the old Route de l’Hospice de France, which is closed to traffic but remains tarmacked for a further 2 km. Cross the Pont de Charruga.
(2) Carry on straight ahead, ignoring the path on your left. Go over a small earth mound (the end of the road for vehicles) and follow the main track.
(3) At the junction, leave the forest track (Chemin Louise) on your left and carry on straight on to the Hospice de France.
(4) Take a short break to admire the Pic de la Pique, Bec de Corbeau, Pic de la Mine and the climb up to the Boums du Port lakes.
To the left of the refuge, take the Sentier des Chèvres. Cross the Roumingou stream – this is straightforward, except in winter when there is a lot of snow; be careful as there may be a steep snow slope. Sometimes it is better to turn back. Continue along the path through the forest.
(5) On emerging from the forest, follow the track across the grassy area to the Cabane du Campsaure.
(6) Enjoy the south-westerly view of the Pic de la Pique and the peaks of the Cirque de la Glère.
Continue along the forest track (Chemin de Louise) and leave the path leading to the Col de Barège on your right.
(7) Leave the forest track and turn right onto the path through the forest
(8) When you reach a fairly flat clearing, do not continue straight on, but look out for the path that loops back (hairpin bend) and follow it towards the Cabane des Barguères.
(9) As you pass the Cabane des Barguères, stop for a moment to admire the top of the Cirque de la Glère, then carry on to the end of the forest track.
(10) Carry on straight ahead along the narrow path that descends into the forest. (Mountain bike markings).
(11) Ignore the paths to the right and left and carry on straight ahead. Keep following the mountain bike markings. The path will become increasingly narrow.
(12) Keep going straight on, ignoring the small paths to the right and left, until you reach the D125.
(13) At the road, turn left and continue along it until you reach the starting point (S/E).
