Description of the walk

Access: enter the village of Bocognano and head towards the hamlet of Busso. Park in the car park just before the power station.

(S/E) Take the path next to the sign warning of the dangers posed by the power station. Cross the bridge over the river, then turn left. Follow the signs for ‘circular path nida a un Cobu’. The path is very well signposted.

(1) At the fork, take the path on the right (easier this way). Follow a few hairpin bends, then turn left. Continue westwards, following the signposts. You’ll be treated to some magnificent views.

(2) At the junction, turn left and head downhill along the winding path. At the next junction, turn left again to reach the river. Walk along the riverbank on your right.

(1) Continue eastwards, then turn right to cross the bridge again and return to the car park (S/E).

Waypoints

  1. S/E : mi 0 - alt. 1,831 ft - Start at the central signpost
  2. 1 : mi 0.24 - alt. 1,788 ft - Junction
  3. 2 : mi 0.88 - alt. 2,218 ft - Crossroads
  4. S/E : mi 1.81 - alt. 1,827 ft - End of the walk

Notes

At the junction (1), the path is easier (in my opinion) if you take the right-hand fork, even though some sections are stony. Make sure you bring water and a cap. There’s very little shade at the end of June.

Worth a visit

On the way back, you can stop by the river.

A lovely, short and easy route, though it is still best suited to walkers with a minimum level of fitness. With all due respect to the naysayers, the piles of stones encountered along the route are, all things considered, to be expected, as the route lies downstream of the (now vanished!) ‘A Tanedda’ glacier; the stone flows are probably glacial debris flows. This route can be done in summer as most of the route runs through woodland, with occasional lovely views of the landscape. In summer, it is possible to swim in the natural pools of the Gravone, which run alongside part of the route.

A lovely walk, but don’t go by the estimated time! It took us 2 hours 30 minutes. That said, having a picnic by the banks of the Gravone is very pleasant, especially as there isn’t much shade along the route.

A very steep climb over rocky terrain
The traverse is in full sun
A very steep descent over rocky ground
A rather uninteresting hike – we didn’t even see the crow’s nest
Difficult and dangerous
